Devotional: Every Step Can Count for Something Eternal
Some mornings you wake up already behind. The to-do list is long, the energy is low, and the idea of your life bearing visible, lasting fruit feels distant from whatever Tuesday actually looks like. You are not alone in that feeling. Many believers carry a quiet fear that their daily lives, the ordinary ones, do not quite measure up to what God had in mind.
Then Colossians 1:10 speaks into that exact space. Paul does not describe fruit-bearing as something reserved for missionaries or ministers. He writes to everyday believers, urging them to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him, bearing fruit in every good work. Every good work. That phrase reaches into the mundane and reclaims it as sacred ground.
The Greek word for “walk” here carries the idea of a habitual, ongoing way of life, not a single heroic moment. God is not asking you to perform greatness today. He is asking you to take the next step with Him, to let His empowerment shape how you speak to your coworker, how you serve your family, how you respond when no one is watching.
This prayer is your invitation to stop striving in your own strength and start walking in His. The fruit will come because He is the one who produces it through you.
Daily Prayer for June 17
Daily Spiritual Posture
Come before God today with open hands and a willing spirit. Release the pressure to perform and receive His empowering grace to simply walk with Him.
Main Scripture
Colossians 1:10 (AMP): “So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord [displaying admirable character, moral courage, and personal integrity], to [fully] please Him in all things, bearing fruit in every good work and steadily growing and increasing in the knowledge of God [with deeper faith, clearer insight and fervent love for His precepts].”
Entering God’s Presence
Father, I come to You this morning not with a polished performance but with a surrendered heart. You are the Lord of every step I take, and I acknowledge that apart from You, no good work I do will last.
I worship You as the source of all fruit, all strength, and all worthy living. Let my posture today be one of dependence, not striving. In Jesus’ name I enter Your presence with thanksgiving.
Prayer of the Day
Jesus, empower me to walk in a manner worthy of You, bearing fruit in every good work. Let my life today, every conversation, every decision, every quiet act of obedience, reflect Your character and not my own agenda.
I ask You to fill me with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, as Paul prayed in Colossians 1:9 (AMP). I do not want to live by guesswork. I want each step to be ordered by You, shaped by Your Word, and empowered by Your Spirit.
Lord, where I have been walking in my own strength and calling it faithfulness, forgive me and redirect me. Produce in me the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV), love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Let that fruit be evident today in my home, my workplace, and my relationships.
I trust that He who began a good work in me will carry it on to completion, as Philippians 1:6 (NIV) promises. Strengthen me to honor You not in grand gestures but in consistent, humble faithfulness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Interceding for Others
Father, I lift up every believer today who feels like their life is not producing anything meaningful. Remind them that You are the vine and they are the branches, and apart from You nothing lasting grows, as John 15:5 (NIV) declares.
Empower the weary to walk again. Let Your Spirit renew their sense of calling and purpose. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Personal Petition
Father, You know the places where my walk has been inconsistent. There are moments I speak with impatience, serve with a distracted heart, or act from duty rather than love. I bring those places to You right now.
Teach me what it means to display admirable character and moral courage in the ordinary. The AMP rendering of Colossians 1:10 does not describe extraordinary people; it describes available ones. I want to be available to You today.
Let every good work I do be rooted in abiding in You. As Andrew Murray understood, the branch does not strain to produce fruit; it stays connected to the vine. Keep me connected, Lord. Keep me close.
I receive Your empowerment now. Colossians 1:11 (AMP) says You strengthen me with all power according to Your glorious might. That is the strength I am walking in today, not my own. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Powerful Prayer Points for Deeper Engagement
Move slowly through each prayer point below, allowing the Word to shape your prayer.
- Father, align my daily habits and choices with Your will so that my walk reflects Your character and not my flesh, in Jesus’ name. (Colossians 1:10, AMP)
- Father, uproot every pattern of fruitless striving and replace it with Spirit-led fruitfulness that glorifies You, in Jesus’ name. (John 15:8, NIV)
- Father, grow in me a hunger to know You more deeply so that my actions flow from genuine relationship and not religious routine, in Jesus’ name. (Philippians 3:10, NLT)
- Father, let every good work I do today be seasoned with love and done as an act of worship to You, in Jesus’ name. (Colossians 3:23, NIV)
Wisdom for Deeper Understanding
Worthy walking is not about perfection; it is about direction. Paul’s prayer in Colossians 1:10 assumes that believers need empowerment, not self-improvement. Fruitfulness flows from connection to Christ, not from increased effort. Every good work God produces through you begins with a surrendered step in His direction. Stay close to Him, and the fruit takes care of itself. As E.M. Bounds wrote, “The men who have done the most for God in this world have been early on their knees.”
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to walk worthy of the Lord in everyday life
Walking worthy is not about earning God’s approval but about living in alignment with who He is and what He has done for you. It shows up in the way you treat people, the honesty you bring to your work, and the patience you extend when you would rather not. Colossians 1:10 (AMP) ties worthy walking directly to bearing fruit, which means it is visible and relational, not just internal or spiritual.
How can I bear fruit when I feel spiritually dry or unproductive
Spiritual dryness is often a signal to return to abiding rather than a sign that God has withdrawn. Jesus made clear in John 15:5 (NIV) that fruitfulness is a result of staying connected to Him, not of trying harder. In seasons of dryness, return to the Word, return to prayer, and trust that the vine is still working even when you cannot see the growth.
Final Encouragement
You do not have to manufacture a worthy life. God has already placed His Spirit inside you to produce exactly what He requires. Walk with Him today, one honest step at a time.
