Devotional: The Anointing Already Lives in You

There is a specific kind of spiritual exhaustion that sets in when you have been chasing guidance from every direction except one. You have asked the right people, read the right books, and still feel like you are missing something. That restlessness is not a sign that God is silent. It is often a sign that you have not yet settled into the place where He already speaks.

That place is called abiding. And 1 John 2:27 says something startling about it: the anointing you received from Christ already teaches you all things. You are not waiting to receive something new. You are learning to remain in what has already been given.

Andrew Murray wrote that abiding is not a passive resting but an active trusting, a daily choice to stay connected to the Vine. The Spirit of Truth does not shout over the noise of a scattered life. He speaks clearly and consistently to the one who has chosen to remain.

Today is an invitation to stop striving and start staying. The anointing is not lost. You simply need to come back to the One who gave it, let Him quiet the noise, and trust that what He started in you, He is still growing.

Daily Prayer for June 18

Daily Spiritual Posture

Sit or kneel in a quiet place. Still your breathing. Release the plans and pressures of the day. Come to God not with a task list but with an open heart, ready to abide.

Main Scripture

“But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true, it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.” (1 John 2:27, NLT)

Entering God’s Presence

Father, I come before You with a grateful and willing heart. You are the source of every true thing, and I acknowledge that apart from You I have nothing of lasting value.

I do not approach You as a stranger. I come as one who has been anointed by Your Spirit, and I choose today to rest in that reality. Let this time of prayer deepen my abiding in Christ.

Prayer of the Day

Spirit of Truth, teach me to remain in Christ, that His anointing may guide and grow me. I confess that I have sometimes looked outward for what You have already placed within. Forgive me for the moments I have trusted voices over Your voice, strategies over Your Word, and anxiety over Your peace.

I stand on 1 John 2:27 (NLT) today. Your anointing lives in me and teaches me all things. I receive that promise not as theology alone but as lived experience. Teach me what is true. Correct what is crooked in my thinking. Align my desires with Yours.

Lord Jesus, I choose to remain in fellowship with You today. Not just in this moment of prayer but in every conversation, every decision, every quiet pause between tasks. Let the awareness of Your presence be the thread that runs through this entire day. Where I drift, draw me back. Where I doubt, anchor me in Your Word. Where I strive, remind me to abide.

Grow me, Lord. Not just in knowledge but in Christlikeness. Let the fruit of remaining in You be visible in my patience, my discernment, and my love for others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Interceding for Others

Father, I lift every believer today who is confused about Your direction for their life. Let them encounter the teaching ministry of Your Spirit freshly today, as promised in 1 John 2:27 (NLT).

I pray for those in spiritual drought, those who feel like the anointing has faded. Remind them that Your gifts and calling are irrevocable (Romans 11:29, NKJV). Bring them back into the rest of abiding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Personal Petition

Father, You know exactly where I am today, and You know how easily I can drift from stillness into striving. I need You not as a distant authority but as the close and present Teacher Your Word says You are.

I receive the promise of John 15:5 (NLT) that those who remain in Christ will produce much fruit. I want that fruit, Lord, not for reputation but because it glorifies You. Prune whatever in me is keeping me from remaining fully.

Teach me to recognize Your voice above every other voice, as Your sheep know You in John 10:27 (NKJV). Let my spiritual ears sharpen through this daily practice of prayer and abiding. Make me sensitive to Your leading in the small moments, not only the large ones.

I trust that the One who began a good work in me will complete it (Philippians 1:6, NIV). I rest in that today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Remaining in Christs Anointing
Be still, and know that He is God. (Psalm 46:10)

Powerful Prayer Points for Deeper Engagement

Move slowly through each prayer point below, allowing the Word to shape your prayer.

  1. Father, let the anointing of Your Spirit be active and evident in my life today, teaching me and guiding me in all truth, in Jesus’ name. (1 John 2:27, NLT)
  2. Father, root me deeply in Christ so that no deception, distraction, or false teaching can pull me away from what is true, in Jesus’ name. (Colossians 2:6-7, NIV)
  3. Father, cultivate in me the fruit of remaining, the patience to stay in Your presence even when I cannot feel You clearly, in Jesus’ name. (John 15:4, NKJV)
  4. Father, grow me into full maturity in Christ so that every part of my life reflects His character and not my own striving, in Jesus’ name. (Ephesians 4:15, NIV)

Wisdom for Deeper Understanding

The anointing John describes in 1 John 2:27 (NLT) is not an occasional visitation but a permanent indwelling. The Holy Spirit does not come and go based on your performance. He abides. The question is whether you are abiding with Him. Every moment of drift is simply an invitation to return, not a sign that the anointing has left. Andrew Murray said it plainly: “The cause of the lack of abiding in Christ is simply this: men do not know that to abide in Christ means to give up everything for Him.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean practically to remain in Christ throughout a busy day

Remaining in Christ is not about unbroken silence or constant prayer posture. It is about continuous reliance, returning your awareness to Him between tasks, decisions, and conversations. Colossians 3:17 (NIV) instructs believers to do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus. That constant acknowledgment is abiding in practice.

How do I know when it is the anointing teaching me versus my own thoughts

The Spirit of Truth never contradicts the written Word of God. When a leading aligns with Scripture, produces peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7, NIV), and moves you toward love and obedience rather than self-interest, it bears the marks of the Spirit’s teaching. Regular time in the Word sharpens your ability to discern the difference over time.

Final Encouragement

You are not spiritually empty today. You carry within you the same anointing John wrote about, given freely, living permanently. The Spirit of Truth has not abandoned His post. He is faithful to guide and grow every heart that chooses to remain. If your day ahead feels uncertain, let that uncertainty drive you deeper into abiding rather than deeper into striving. Close this time in prayer knowing that you are held, taught, and equipped. If you want to carry this posture of abiding into the evening, our evening prayers will help you close the day the same way you opened it, in fellowship with Christ.

I declare that the anointing of the Holy Spirit guides me, teaches me, and grows me as I remain in Christ today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
