Devotional: The Tree That Does Not Rush
You have been waiting longer than you expected. The thing God planted in you, the calling, the promise, the seed of something holy, has not yet broken ground in the way you hoped. And in that waiting, a quiet fear begins to whisper that perhaps you were wrong, perhaps the season passed, perhaps the ground is too dry.
But look at the tree in Psalm 1:3. It does not strain. It does not force its fruit. It simply stays planted by the rivers of water, and in that staying, everything it was created to produce comes forth in its season.
The living water is not a reward for productivity. It is the source of it. God does not ask you to manufacture fruit. He asks you to stay rooted near Him, drawing from what only He can supply. When you are planted there, fruitfulness is not a struggle. It is an inevitability.
Today is not the day to uproot yourself and search for faster ground. Today is the day to go deeper, to press your roots further into His Word, His presence, His faithfulness. The tree that drinks from living water does not wither. And neither will you.
Daily Prayer for June 16
Daily Spiritual Posture
Come to this prayer unhurried. Release the pressure of your timeline. You are not behind. You are being watered.
Main Scripture
“They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” (Psalm 1:3, NLT)
Entering God’s Presence
Father, I come to You today not with noise or performance but with open hands. You are the source of every living thing, and apart from You I can produce nothing of lasting worth.
I acknowledge that You are the river. You are the water my roots were made to drink from. I draw near to You now, and I trust that nearness is enough.
Prayer of the Day
God, plant me by Your living waters that I might yield fruit in Your perfect time. Root me so deeply in Your Word that drought cannot diminish me and delay cannot discourage me. Let me be the tree of Psalm 1:3 (NLT), stable, nourished, and fruitful in every season You appoint.
Lord, I confess I have sometimes tried to produce in my own strength what only proximity to You can grow. Forgive me for striving when You called me to abide. Teach me the difference between holy effort and anxious striving, as You promised rest to all who come to You (Matthew 11:28, NLT).
Let Your Word be the river I return to every morning. Let my roots go down into the truth that You are faithful, that Your timing is perfect, and that every promise You have spoken over my life will come to pass. I choose today to stay planted. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Interceding for Others
Father, I lift every person today who feels like a dormant seed, unseen and overlooked. Water them with Your presence and remind them that hidden growth is still growth.
I pray for those whose faith is dry and whose hope feels thin. Plant them again by Your living waters and let their roots find You before their season of harvest arrives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Personal Petition
Father, You know the specific promise I am still waiting on. You know what You placed in me and what has not yet come to full expression. I stand on Your Word today and I refuse to uproot myself from the place where You planted me.
Let my roots go down into Your faithfulness. Let me drink deeply from Your Word each day so that what You are growing in me is nourished from the inside out. As Jeremiah 17:8 (NLT) declares, let me be like a tree planted by the water, unshaken even in years of drought.
I trust Your seasons, Lord. I trust that the fruit You have promised will come at exactly the right time, and that nothing You have spoken over my life will return to You void (Isaiah 55:11, NKJV). I choose to stay. I choose to trust. I choose to remain near You.
Sustain me today with the living water of Your Spirit. Let my leaves not wither in the waiting. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Wisdom for Deeper Understanding
The tree in Psalm 1:3 (NLT) does not produce fruit by trying harder. It produces fruit by staying close to the water. Fruitfulness is always a byproduct of rootedness. When you feel unproductive, the answer is rarely more effort. It is deeper proximity to God, more time in His Word, more stillness in His presence. The river is always flowing. The invitation is simply to stay near it. As Andrew Murray wrote, “The man who mobilizes the Christian church to pray will make the greatest contribution to world evangelization.” Fruitfulness begins in the roots.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does it mean to be planted by living waters in Psalm 1:3
To be planted by living waters means to position your life in constant nearness to God and His Word. The image is intentional, a tree does not carry water to itself, it grows where water flows. When you make Scripture your daily foundation and God’s presence your daily dwelling, you are placing yourself in exactly the position where spiritual nourishment is continuous and fruitfulness becomes natural over time.
How do I stay rooted in God when I am waiting for a long-delayed promise
Staying rooted in a season of waiting begins with a daily decision to return to God’s Word before you return to your circumstances. Jeremiah 17:8 (NLT) reminds us that the tree planted by water does not worry in drought years because its confidence is in its source, not its season. Let worship, prayer, and Scripture reading become your daily act of trust. You are not waiting passively. You are actively drinking while the fruit forms underground.
Final Encouragement
You are not forgotten. You are not falling behind. You are planted by the very waters of the Living God, and that placement is a promise in itself. Every day you return to His Word, every morning you kneel in prayer, every moment you choose trust over anxiety, your roots go deeper and your fruit draws closer to its appointed time.
