Today’s Open Heaven devotional calls us to something beautifully simple yet profoundly demanding — look up, look around, and follow well. Whether you’re a new believer searching for a pattern to build your life on, or a seasoned saint who feels stuck in spiritual mediocrity, this message meets you right where you are. Pastor E.A. Adeboye reminds us that the life of faith is not invented in isolation; it is caught, cultivated, and passed on. Let today’s devotional stir fresh hunger in your heart to walk so close to God that others find Him by watching you.

Bible reading: Ephesians 5:1-5 (KJV)
Memory verse: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. – Hebrews 6:12 (KJV)
Years ago, a pastor prayed and told God that if He gave him ten percent of what I had, he would be satisfied. God told him that if he could do what I do, then he would get what I had. When he asked God about what I had done in the past, God told him that I started with 40 days of fasting. The man told God to leave him as he was because he was not ready to follow that example.
Child of God, to achieve certain results in life, you must follow certain examples as it is only natural to eventually become like those whose lifestyle you emulate. When Elijah was taken up into heaven, Elisha received a double portion of the anointing on Elijah’s life, took Elijah’s mantle, rolled it up, and struck River Jordan. Then, he asked God to part the river as he had parted it for Elijah, and God did so. Elisha followed his father’s example. Paul told the believers at Corinth to follow him as he followed Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1). The question is, who are you following? Who are you mimicking? Ephesians 5:1 says that we should be followers of God as dear children.
As we follow God, there are also people of God around us whom we can also follow. Today’s memory verse urges us to follow those who, through faith and patience, inherit the promises. There are patterns and examples you should follow as a child of God. If someone is truly following Jesus Christ, then you are safe when you follow him or her because such a person will lead you to the Lord. God has provided many great examples in His word and has also given us fathers in the faith to emulate as they follow Christ. To truly emulate someone, you must study them closely and watch what they are doing. You cannot emulate people just from little clips you see about them on social media, because there are many things about them that you will miss. Read their books, volunteer to work with them, and study how they approach matters.
Beloved, as you emulate your heavenly Father, also become a good and worthy example to others. Follow Christ so that those emulating you will also find Him. I pray that as you emulate your heavenly Father, He will make you a worthy ambassador for Him, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer Points
- Lord, give me a genuine hunger to know You deeply — not just to admire Your servants from a distance, but to pursue You the way they did.
- Father, remove every spirit of comparison and envy from my heart, and replace it with a humble willingness to learn from those You have placed ahead of me.
- Holy Spirit, connect me with godly mentors and examples whose lives genuinely reflect Christ, and give me the discernment to recognise them.
- Lord, help me to study Your Word and the lives of Your servants with discipline and consistency, not passively but with intentional pursuit.
- Father, wherever I have been satisfied with spiritual shortcuts or surface-level devotion, grant me the courage to commit to the deeper path of faith and patience.
- God, make my life a clean and readable testimony — let those who watch me find a clear trail that leads straight to Jesus Christ.
- Lord, I pray for every person in my sphere of influence; let my example in faith, integrity, and surrender become a compass that points them closer to You.
- Father, as I emulate You and the patterns You have set, cause the promises You have spoken over my life to come to full inheritance, in Jesus' name.
Declarations
- I am a deliberate follower of Christ — I study His ways, embrace His disciplines, and walk in the footsteps He has marked out for me.
- I carry a godly inheritance because I choose faith and patience over impatience and compromise; the promises of God are yes and amen in my life.
- My life is a living epistle — those who observe me will see Christ clearly, and my example will draw others into His presence.
- I refuse spiritual mediocrity; I commit to the pursuit of God with my whole heart, following every example He has set before me in His Word.
- I am both a student and a steward of godly legacy — I receive it from those ahead of me and I faithfully pass it on to those who come after.
Reflection
Take a quiet moment today to honestly assess whose footsteps you are following. Not whose highlight reel you scroll past online, but whose life you are genuinely, intentionally studying up close. Identify one person of faith — living or through their writings — whose walk with God you want to emulate this season. Then take one practical step toward that: order their book, request a conversation, or simply begin praying the kinds of prayers they pray. And equally, ask God to show you one person who may be watching your life right now, and let that awareness inspire you to walk a little more carefully and a little more deliberately today.
