Something shifts in the spiritual atmosphere when a believer begins to pray with understanding. Not fear. Not panic. Understanding. The kind that comes from scripture, from knowing what Jesus said, and from recognizing that the unseen conflict around you has already been decided by the cross.
Demons are not a medieval superstition. They appear in the Gospels, in the letters of Paul, in the book of Revelation. Jesus cast them out. He gave His disciples authority over them. And that same authority, grounded in His name and His blood, belongs to every believer who prays in faith. The enemy counts on ignorance. Knowledge of what scripture says about demonic influence, combined with deliberate, targeted prayer, is one of the most powerful postures a Christian can take.
Greg Laurie has taught that Christians often live in unnecessary defeat because they do not understand the nature of spiritual warfare. They feel the weight of oppression, fear, confusion, and attack, but they do not connect those experiences to a spiritual source and they do not pray accordingly. Scripture calls us to be sober and alert. It tells us we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. And it tells us that greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world. These prayer points are built on that foundation.
Use these prayer points in your morning prayer, your night prayer to take authority over every power, or in any season when the spiritual pressure feels unusually heavy. Pray them with expectation. The authority is not yours by personality or performance. It is yours in Jesus’ name.
Prayer Points for Spiritual Warfare and Understanding Demons
Prayer Points
- Father, I come before You now, fully aware that my struggle is not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of darkness, and I take my stand in the full armor You have provided, in the name of Jesus.
Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV) — “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age.” - Lord Jesus, I declare that You have already disarmed every principality and power through the cross, and I stand today on that finished victory over every demonic assignment against my life, in the name of Jesus.
Colossians 2:15 (NKJV) — “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” - Father, open the eyes of my understanding by Your Spirit so that I may discern the spiritual forces at work around me and respond with biblical wisdom rather than fear or confusion, in the name of Jesus.
Ephesians 1:18 (NKJV) — “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling.” - I bind every demonic spirit of oppression that has been assigned to hinder my mind, my body, my relationships, or my calling, and I loose the peace and clarity of the Holy Spirit over every area of my life, in the name of Jesus.
Matthew 18:18 (NKJV) — “Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” - Lord, I declare that greater is He who is in me than any demonic power operating in the world around me, and I refuse to shrink back in fear from the spiritual battle You have already equipped me to win, in the name of Jesus.
1 John 4:4 (NKJV) — “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” - Father, I plead the blood of Jesus over my home, my family, and every space I occupy, and I declare that no demonic spirit has legal access to what has been covered and consecrated by the blood of the Lamb, in the name of Jesus.
Revelation 12:11 (NKJV) — “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” - Lord Jesus, just as You demonstrated absolute authority over demons during Your earthly ministry, I declare that same delegated authority now over every evil spirit that seeks to oppress, deceive, or torment me or those I love, in the name of Jesus.
Luke 10:19 (NKJV) — “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy.” - Father, expose and dismantle every demonic strategy of deception that has been constructed against my mind, my perception of truth, and my confidence in Your Word, in the name of Jesus.
2 Corinthians 10:4 (NKJV) — “The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.” - I pray against every spirit of fear that demonic influence has used to paralyze my prayer life, weaken my faith, or keep me from walking in the freedom Christ purchased for me, and I receive the spirit of power, love, and a sound mind, in the name of Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NKJV) — “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” - Lord, I stand on Your promise that the devil must flee when I resist him, and I actively resist every demonic pressure, temptation, and accusation through the authority of Your name and the truth of Your Word, in the name of Jesus.
James 4:7 (NKJV) — “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” - Father, guard me against the spiritual warfare tactic of satanic contacts and hidden spiritual agreements that give demonic spirits ground in my life, and sever every ungodly tie by the power of the Holy Spirit, in the name of Jesus.
Isaiah 54:17 (NKJV) — “No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn.” - Lord Jesus, I pray for every believer who is suffering under demonic oppression without understanding its source, that You would bring revelation, break every chain, and restore their spiritual sight to see Your provision and victory clearly, in the name of Jesus.
Luke 4:18 (NKJV) — “He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind.” - Father, protect my sleep from every demonic intrusion through evil dreams and night attacks, and let Your angels encamp around me through every hour of rest so that I wake renewed and unharassed, in the name of Jesus.
Psalm 91:11 (NKJV) — “He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.” - I declare that every demonic stronghold of addiction, lust, bitterness, pride, or unforgiveness that has been built in my life through repeated sin is now pulled down by the power of the Holy Spirit and replaced with the fruit of righteousness, in the name of Jesus.
Romans 8:2 (NKJV) — “The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.” - Father, I pray for the full activation of the spiritual gifts of discernment of spirits in Your Church so that believers may see clearly, pray accurately, and contend effectively for those trapped under demonic influence, bringing them into the freedom of the gospel of Jesus Christ, in the name of Jesus.
1 Corinthians 12:10 (NKJV) — “To another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.”

Point of Reflection
Spiritual warfare is not primarily about what the enemy is doing. It is about who you are in Christ. Every prayer point above is effective not because of how loudly you pray it or how intensely you feel it, but because of whose name you carry into the battle. Jesus demonstrated authority over demons in the Gospels, and He delegated that authority to His people. Walk in it. Not with arrogance, but with the quiet confidence of someone who knows the battle has already been decided by the resurrection.

Prayer Prompt Faith Activation
Choose one area of your life where you have sensed unusual spiritual pressure and return to the prayer points that speak directly to that area. Pray them specifically, with scripture open before you, for seven consecutive days. Consistency in prayer is itself an act of spiritual warfare.
Final Encouragement
You are not alone in the unseen battle. The angelic warfare confraternity prayers for divine protection and countless believers across history have prayed the same scriptures you are standing on today. The weapons of your warfare are mighty through God. They pull down strongholds. They bring light into darkness. They declare to principalities and powers that the King of Kings has already triumphed.
Keep praying. Keep declaring. The Word you speak in faith today is active, alive, and sharper than any two-edged sword. The enemy has no answer for a believer who knows who they are in Christ and refuses to stop praying.
