Topic: More Than A Conqueror

Devotional: Open Heaven (RCCG)

Date: 2026-09-23

Bible reading: Romans 8:28-37 (KJV)

Memory verse: Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. – 2 Corinthians 2:14 (KJV)

Life is full of battles. From the moment you were born until you leave this world, you will experience different battles. Unfortunately, many people go through life fighting battles without any hope of victory. However, when a person comes to Christ, the fellow becomes a new creature (2 Corinthians 5:17), and everything changes. Where such a person has been fighting and struggling to win before and didn’t know his or her fate when it comes to the battles of life, in Christ, the fellow ceases to struggle and is assured of being victorious. In fact, such a person becomes more than victorious; he or she becomes more than a conqueror.

Romans 8:37 says that, as believers, we are more than conquerors. A conqueror is someone who fights and defeats his or her enemies. While a conqueror has to fight to achieve victory, someone who is more than a conqueror enjoys victory without fighting any battles. Such a person sits comfortably to enjoy the victory achieved by a conqueror. God sees you as more than a conqueror because you are a recipient of Jesus’ victory. Jesus went to the cross, defeated the devil, claimed victory, and handed it over to you. In Matthew 28:18, He declared that all power in heaven and on earth had been given to Him. Then, He handed the power over to His disciples and every other believer through the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8).

When the disciples received the Holy Spirit, they began to reign in life. They cast out demons and healed the sick effortlessly in the name of Jesus. Even when they faced challenges and persecution, the Bible says that those who were scattered went everywhere preaching the word (Acts 8:1-4). For instance, Philip went to Samaria, and the whole city was won for Christ (Acts 8:5-8).

Beloved, being more than a conqueror doesn’t mean that you won’t face challenges; it simply means that whenever challenges arise, you should be prepared for promotions, because God will use all the enemy’s plans to elevate you. The devil thought he had destroyed Jesus by arranging His crucifixion, but he didn’t know that he was destroying himself. 1 Corinthians 2:8 tells us that had the princes of this world known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. I decree that the devil’s plots against you will blow up in his face. You will triumph against all odds, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.

Prayer Points

  • Lord, deepen my understanding that the victory secured at Calvary belongs to me as Your child, help me live from that reality rather than straining toward it.
  • Father, where I have been fighting in my own strength, teach me to rest in the finished work of Jesus and draw on the power of Your Holy Spirit instead.
  • I pray for everyone reading this who feels overwhelmed by a battle they did not choose, meet them in this moment with fresh assurance that You are already ahead of them.
  • Holy Spirit, make me sensitive to Your leading so that every challenge I face becomes a doorway into new levels of grace and promotion.
  • Lord, expose every scheme the enemy has set against my destiny and cause his own strategies to collapse under the weight of Your sovereignty.
  • Father, stir up boldness in me like the early disciples, that I would carry the gospel forward even through seasons of difficulty and opposition.
  • I ask, Lord, that the people and communities around me would see Your triumph displayed through my life and be drawn to know You personally.
  • Thank You, God, that You never waste my trials, transform every hard season into a testimony that glorifies Your name and strengthens my faith.

Declarations

  • I am not a victim of my circumstances; I am a beneficiary of Christ's complete victory, and I walk in that victory today.
  • Every plot formed against my purpose will unravel, because the God who raised Jesus from the dead is actively working all things together for my good.
  • I carry the same Spirit that empowered the disciples to transform cities, His power in me is greater than any opposition set against me.
  • I do not have to earn triumph through endless striving; I receive what Jesus already won and I advance confidently in His name.
  • My challenges are not dead ends, they are launching pads, and I declare that I will come out of every trial elevated and more fruitful than before.

Reflection

Take a moment today to identify one situation where you have been approaching a challenge purely from a place of fear or self-reliance. Now consciously reframe it: because of what Christ has already accomplished, you are walking into that situation as someone whose outcome is secured, not someone scrambling to make victory possible. Let that shift in perspective change how you pray about it, talk about it, and take your next step in it.
