Today’s Open Heaven devotional by Pastor E.A. Adeboye asks a searching question every believer needs to sit with honestly: are you truly planted where God has placed you, and are you giving yourself to serve there? If you’ve ever felt spiritually restless, fruitless, or simply like a spectator in your own faith community, this word is for you. God is not random about where He stations His people — and your flourishing is tied to your faithfulness in that specific soil He has chosen for you.

Bible reading: Acts 13:1-3 (KJV)
Memory verse: Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. – Psalm 92:13 (KJV)
In Luke 12:7, Jesus said that the strands of hair on your head are numbered. If God is so meticulous about the number of hair strands on your head, then your decision of where to fellowship with other believers greatly matters to Him. Therefore, it is important for you to seek God’s face for guidance in choosing the local assembly where you will fellowship with other believers.
Isaiah 61:3 says:
To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.
You are the planting of the Lord, so He knows best where you should be planted so you can flourish according to His will and to His glory. Today’s Bible reading makes us understand that Paul and Barnabas attended the church at Antioch. It was while they were there that the Holy Spirit commissioned them into ministry. There was a church in Jerusalem and another at Samaria at that time, but God spoke to them in the church at Antioch. They were planted in their local assembly, and that was why God sent His word to them there.
Child of God, it is, however, not enough to know the church God wants you to attend; it is also crucial to be rooted and fully involved there. Seeds grow when they fall to the ground and die. In John 12:24, Jesus said that except a corn of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it abides alone, but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Some Christians hop from church to church because they don’t see the necessity of being planted in a local assembly; however, God can hardly bless them that way. Some others attend church regularly but are not involved in serving within a department or ministry. Such believers are out of the church building as soon as the service ends.
Beloved, only seeds that are planted can grow and bear fruit. Believers cannot enjoy the fullness of God’s blessings if they are not planted and serving in the local assembly God wants them to be because only those who are planted in the house of the Lord truly flourish (Psalm 92:13). I pray that the Lord will establish your feet in His vineyard and shower you with manifold blessings, in Jesus’ name.

- Father, uproot every spirit of spiritual restlessness and wandering from my life, and anchor my heart deeply in the place of Your choosing.
- Holy Spirit, help me to die to self-centeredness in worship so that, like a seed surrendered to the ground, I may bear fruit that remains.
- God, reveal to me the specific ministry or department in my local church where my gifts can serve Your people and bring You glory.
- Lord, I pray for every believer who has been hurt by a church experience — heal their wounds and restore their trust so they can be rooted again.

- I choose to die to selfishness and church-hopping; as I give myself fully to God's vine, I will produce abundant, lasting fruit.
Reflection
Take a quiet moment today and ask yourself two honest questions: Am I in the church God actually directed me to, or simply the one that suits my schedule? And within that church, am I a participant or a passenger? Your assignment is not just attendance — it’s investment. Look for one practical way this week to plug into a ministry, serve a need, or encourage a leader in your local assembly. The ground you commit to is the ground that will eventually hold your harvest.
