Open Heaven for July 31, 2026
Topic: Overcoming Temptations (1)
Devotional: Open Heaven (RCCG)
Date: 2026-07-31
Bible reading: Titus 2:11-12, Hebrews 2:17-18 (KJV)
Memory verse: But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. – 2 Peter 3:18 (KJV)
Yesterday, I discussed how you can avoid temptations by staying away from people, things, or places that may tempt you, and generally fleeing every appearance of evil. I also established the fact that everyone will be tempted at one point or another, as Jesus Christ Himself was tempted in all points (Hebrews 4:15). Today, I will explain how you can overcome temptations, just as Jesus overcame all the temptations that came His way.
The first thing you must take note of is that God will never allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. – 1 Corinthians 10:13
When a temptation comes your way, you must know that you already have the strength that is needed to overcome it. The reason people fall to temptations is that they do not use the strength that God has made available to them. They place great focus on the shiny things the devil is tempting them with instead of the strength and grace that God has given them to overcome such temptations.
A man of God once came to me and said, “Daddy, I don’t know why I keep falling into adultery with some girls in my church. I usually don’t know what I am doing until I am through with the act.” I responded to him, saying, “While you are about to remove your clothes, you know that you want to do something bad, but instead of stopping you decide to focus on the ‘pleasure’ the devil is putting in front of you instead of listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit that is telling you to stop in that moment. Sometimes you even go as far as locking the door to ensure that even if God wants to send someone in to stop you, it will not work. That is why you always fall. Listen to the Holy Spirit anytime He says, ‘Stop.'”
Beloved, use the grace that God has made available to His children to stop them from falling into temptation. There is always a way out of temptation; listen to the Holy Spirit, and take the way He shows you. Do not let the devil have victory over your soul.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today
These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.
Prayer Points
- Lord, open my eyes to recognize the escape routes You have already prepared for me in every moment of temptation, so I never feel trapped or without hope.
- Father, tune my heart to hear the still, small voice of the Holy Spirit clearly and immediately, especially in those critical seconds before a wrong choice is made.
- God, help me to redirect my gaze from what temptation is offering and fix my attention firmly on Your strength, Your promises, and Your presence within me.
- Lord, I pray for every minister, leader, and believer who is secretly struggling with repeated sin, bring them to a place of honest confession, genuine accountability, and lasting freedom.
- Holy Spirit, make me sensitive to the subtle ways I unconsciously close doors on Your intervention, forgive me for the times I have locked You out and help me to keep every door open to You.
- Father, grow me in grace as Your Word commands, so that as my trials intensify, my capacity to resist and stand firm grows even stronger.
- Lord, break every agreement I have made with temptation, conscious or unconscious, and establish in me a deep, settled hatred for what grieves Your Spirit.
- God, let Your faithfulness, not my own willpower, become the foundation of my confidence when the enemy comes against me.
Declarations
- I declare that no temptation I face today is beyond my ability to overcome, because God Himself has already made a way of escape and given me the grace to take it.
- I declare that I am sensitive to the Holy Spirit, and when He says stop, I stop, His voice is louder in my life than the voice of temptation.
- I declare that I am not defined by past failures but by the faithfulness of God who continuously equips me to stand, resist, and walk in victory.
- I declare that the grace of God within me is greater than any desire, any pull, or any pressure the enemy brings against my soul today.
- I declare that I choose life, purity, and obedience, and I walk in the freedom that Christ died to give me, one moment and one decision at a time.
Reflection
Consider one recurring area where temptation tends to find you most vulnerable, and ask yourself honestly: have you been focusing more on what temptation is offering than on the grace God has already placed inside you? Today’s invitation is not to try harder in your own strength, but to pause long enough to actually listen, to let the Holy Spirit lead you through the door He has already opened. Practical obedience in that split-second moment of decision is where victory is either won or lost.
