Today’s Open Heaven devotional from Pastor E.A. Adeboye confronts us with one of Scripture’s most sobering realities, the lake of fire and the kinds of lives that lead there. It is a message not of condemnation but of urgent, loving invitation to examine our hearts while there is still time. Whether you are a long-time believer or someone still searching for solid ground, this word is for you. Let it stir genuine reflection, deep prayer, and the kind of repentance that produces lasting transformation.

Topic: the Lake of Fire

Devotional: Open Heaven (RCCG)

Bible reading: Revelation 21:8, 26-27 (KJV)

Memory verse: And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. – Revelation 20:15 (KJV)

I was shocked when I heard someone say several years ago that he was preparing to go to hell. He even said that he wanted to take my Father in the Lord, me, and one other person along with him. The most shocking thing was that the individual who made that statement was a senior minister in the church at that time.

Today’s Bible reading lists the types of people who are already preparing to make the lake of fire their home. These people probably know God and have seen His mighty works at different times; however, they still choose to live a lifestyle that opposes His ways. I may not be able to talk about each of the types of people elaborately here, but I will comment on some of them below.

There are people who are too afraid to bear God’s name; therefore, they deny Him before men. In Matthew 10:33, Jesus said that He will also deny such people in the presence of His Father. There are also those who refer to themselves as atheists. They claim not to believe that God exists, whereas it is untrue because they know deep within themselves that He exists. He calls out to them every now and then, and they can feel Him reaching out to them. However, they choose not to believe in Him. They don’t even want to hear God’s word or study it because they just don’t want to believe. There are also those who do abominable things, those who murder, and those who are sexually immoral. All such people who have chosen such lifestyles will go to hell if they refuse to repent. Regardless of how saintly they may appear, their final home is in the lake of fire. Likewise, those who outrightly serve the devil, such as witches and wizards, cultists, and those who belong to associations that engage in evil acts, will also end up in the lake of fire. Lastly, liars will also suffer the same fate and end up in the lake of fire.

Beloved, I want you to honestly evaluate your life. If you discover that you fall into any of the categories of people listed in today’s Bible reading, I urge you to repent now and change your lifestyle because the lake of fire is a place of unending sorrow. I pray that when Jesus comes back to the earth, you and I will enter into paradise with Him, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.

Prayer Points

  • Lord, grant me the courage to conduct an honest, unsparing examination of my life in the light of Your Word today, and reveal anything in me that grieves Your Spirit.
  • Father, where fear or shame has caused me to hide my faith or deny Your name before others, forgive me and fill me with holy boldness to stand for You without apology.
  • God of mercy, I intercede for every person in my circle who is living in open rebellion against You, soften their hearts, break through their resistance, and draw them to genuine repentance before it is too late.
  • Lord Jesus, purify my heart from every form of deception, half-truth, and dishonesty, let integrity mark every word I speak and every commitment I make.
  • Heavenly Father, I pray for those who profess to lead others but whose private lives contradict their public witness, restore them, correct them, or remove them from positions of influence before many are led astray.
  • Holy Spirit, make the reality of eternity so vivid in my daily awareness that I am consistently motivated to choose righteousness over momentary comfort or personal gain.
  • Lord, write my name indelibly in the Lamb's Book of Life and keep me faithful to the end, not by my own willpower, but by the power of Your sustaining grace.
  • Father, let this day's devotional not pass through me like water through sand; let it take root, produce genuine change, and bear fruit that remains for eternity.

Declarations

  • I declare that I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and I will confess His name boldly before men, trusting Him to confess my name before the Father.
  • I declare that my name is written in the Lamb's Book of Life and I will walk worthy of that eternal privilege by living a life surrendered to God's authority.
  • I declare that every generational pattern, hidden sin, or lifestyle inconsistency that could disqualify me from eternity with God is broken today by the power of Christ's blood.
  • I declare that I am a truth-teller, my yes means yes, my no means no, and my life reflects the integrity of the God I serve.
  • I declare that I will finish well; by God's grace, I will be among those who enter into eternal rest with Christ, and I take deliberate steps today to live accordingly.

Reflection

Eternity has a way of making today’s choices feel weightier than they seemed before. Rather than reading today’s categories of danger as a checklist that applies only to obvious outsiders, pause and ask: Is there a smaller, subtler version of any of these patterns quietly operating in my own heart, a fear that silences my witness, a compromise I have dressed up in respectable language, a habit I know grieves God but have not yet surrendered? Honest self-examination before a merciful God is not a cause for shame; it is the doorway to freedom. Choose that doorway today.
