Topic: Deliverance From Material Burdens
Devotional: Open Heaven (RCCG)
Date: 2026-07-15
Bible reading: Haggai 1:2-8 (KJV)
Memory verse: And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. – Joel 2:25 (KJV)
Today, I will discuss material burdens as another category of burdens. The devil seeks to put material burdens on people because he knows that when someone is living in poverty, it will be easier for him or her to fall into temptations that involve material things. The widow of Zarephath and her son watched their material food supplies deplete daily until they had only one meal left. To make matters worse, a severe famine had struck the land; everything was dry, and they had no hope of finding another meal. Therefore, they resolved to eat the only meal that was left and prepare for death. However, the Burden Bearer stepped into their situation and turned things around such that what wasn’t enough became sufficient to sustain them throughout the famine (1 Kings 17:7-16). I pray that the Almighty God will deliver you from any material burden that may be in your life, in Jesus’ name.
There was once a very wealthy man who had a quarrel with his wife. As the quarrel got heated, she told him that by the time she was finished with him, he would travel everywhere within Lagos on foot. The man laughed because at the time, he had 14 cars. Unfortunately, however, things began to go downhill for him, and at one point, he had one car left and 50 kobo in his pocket. Then he began to think to himself, “If I use the 50 kobo with me to fuel my car, I will have nothing to eat. However, if l buy food, I will have to walk everywhere I need to go, just as my wife had said.” That was when he came to Jesus Christ, and Jesus took over his situation. When he shared the testimony of his turnaround, he was dedicating two new houses at once.
In today’s Bible reading, Haggai rebuked the Israelites for abandoning God’s house and living just for themselves. He told them that they were experiencing a lack of material resources as a result. The people sowed much but reaped little, and the little they earned wasted away. Beloved, if you want to experience material prosperity, seek God’s Kingdom and His righteousness wholeheartedly. Mind His business, and He will ensure that you live in material abundance all the days of your life. If you have lost any material thing, turn to God today, and He will restore it to you, just as He promised in today’s memory verse.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today
These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.
Prayer Points
- Lord, identify and uproot every spiritual force that has been assigned to drain my finances and material resources, in Jesus' name.
- Father, just as You sustained the widow of Zarephath through a season of famine, supernaturally stretch every resource in my hand so that it outlasts this present season of lack.
- Almighty God, forgive me for every moment I have prioritized my own comfort over the advancement of Your Kingdom, and restore what that misalignment has cost me.
- Lord, reverse every word spoken against my prosperity, whether by human tongue or enemy design, and let Your blessing silence every curse, in Jesus' name.
- Father, give me divine wisdom to manage, invest, and steward the resources You place in my hands so that nothing You send me is wasted.
- Holy Spirit, keep my heart from the temptations that come with financial pressure; let my integrity remain intact even in my most desperate moments.
- Lord, according to Your promise in Joel 2:25, restore the years and the resources that have been consumed, time, money, opportunity, and progress, and let my testimony glorify You.
- Father, let every harvest I have sowed but not yet seen come to fruition now, and open new streams of provision I have not yet imagined.
Declarations
- I declare that my God is my Provider, and no famine, financial, material, or otherwise, has the final word over my life.
- I declare that I am not defined by what I have lost; I am positioned for a restoration so visible that it becomes a testimony.
- I declare that as I put God's Kingdom first, material abundance follows me as a covenant right, not a distant hope.
- I declare that every curse and negative word spoken over my finances is broken, and the blessing of the Lord is overtaking me right now.
- I declare that the years the enemy has stolen from my finances are being returned in full, with interest, to the glory of God.
Reflection
Take a quiet moment today and honestly examine where you have been placing your greatest effort, has it been building your own comfort, or contributing to something eternal? The Haggai principle is simple but sobering: misplaced priorities create leaks that no amount of earning can fill. Make one practical adjustment this week that puts God’s house first, whether that is tithing faithfully, serving with your time, or simply returning to consistent prayer, and watch how heaven responds to a rightly ordered heart.
