Topic: Deliverance From Physical Burdens

Devotional: Open Heaven (RCCG)

Date: 2026-07-14

Bible reading: Isaiah 61:1-4 (KJV)

Memory verse: And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. – Matthew 9:35 (KJV)

In John 19:16-17, some Roman soldiers were leading Jesus to Golgotha to be crucified, and they made Him carry a heavy cross. He had been thoroughly beaten earlier and must have been very weak, yet they made Him carry this heavy burden by Himself. On the way, they met a man from Cyrene named Simon, and I believe that God prompted them to compel him to assist Jesus in carrying the cross to the place He was to be crucified (Matthew 27:32). Simon is an example of a burden bearer; he helped Jesus to lift His heavy burden.

Beloved, Jesus Christ wants to help you carry every burden that might be weighing you down. This is why He said that you should come to Him with whatever burdens you may be carrying so that He can relieve you of them and give you rest (Matthew 11:28).

It is important to note that there are different categories of burdens. Today, I will discuss physical burdens. For example, Naaman had a physical burden, which was in the form of an incurable disease (2 Kings 5:1). Likewise, Luke 13:10-17 tells us about a woman with a spirit of infirmity who was bent double. Everywhere she went, people could see the visible manifestation of the burden she was carrying; no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t stand up straight. Also, in John 5:2-9, the Bible tells the story of a man who had been by the pool of Bethesda for 38 years. He had a long-standing physical burden, and I imagine that his family and friends had abandoned him because of his infirmity. By God’s mercies, however, Jesus, the Burden Bearer, approached him and lifted his long-standing burden instantly.

Mark 3:1-6 also tells the story of a man who had a physical deformity. One of his hands was withered, meaning that it was dead and was no longer useful. He was limited because he could only use one of his hands. However, when the Burden Bearer met him at the synagogue, He had mercy on him and made the withered hand whole like the other. I pray for you that in every area you may be experiencing limitations due to a physical ailment, the Almighty God will step into your case and restore you completely.

Beloved, are you feeling overwhelmed by any physical burden? Do not despair; rather, approach God’s throne of grace and cast it upon Him. He will carry your burdens for you and remove every limitation in your life.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.

Prayer Points

  • Lord Jesus, You are the same Burden Bearer who walked the roads of Galilee, come walk into every room of my body today and drive out every infirmity that has made itself at home.
  • Father, just as You noticed the woman bent double in the synagogue, turn Your gaze toward every hidden ailment in me that no doctor's report has fully captured, and let Your healing word be the final diagnosis.
  • I ask, Lord, that You break the power of every long-standing condition in my life, those burdens that have lingered so many years that others have stopped praying about them, and make me whole today.
  • Holy Spirit, where sickness has closed doors, stolen opportunities, or caused relationships to drift away, restore what the years of infirmity have taken from me, pressed down and overflowing.
  • Lord, I intercede for everyone in my family who is carrying a physical burden in silence. Let Your compassion reach them before another sun sets, and let their testimony be a sign to all who have watched them suffer.
  • Father, where my faith has grown thin under the weight of a prolonged condition, strengthen it now. Remind me that Your power is not diminished by how long I have waited, and renew my expectation of Your miracle.
  • I pray for every person reading this devotional who is facing a medical verdict that feels final, speak into that situation, Lord, and let the Burden Bearer have the last word over every prognosis.
  • Lord, as I cast this physical weight upon You today, teach me to leave it in Your hands, not to pick it back up in worry, and let the peace that surpasses understanding guard my heart while You work.

Declarations

  • I declare that Jesus Christ is actively carrying every physical burden I have surrendered to Him, and His strength is made perfect in my weakness.
  • I am not defined by any limitation in my body; I am defined by the finished work of the One who bore stripes so that I might walk in wholeness.
  • I declare that no infirmity in my body has the authority to write the final chapter of my story, the Burden Bearer has already rewritten it.
  • I am drawing near to God's throne of grace with boldness today, and I receive mercy and timely help for every physical need I carry.
  • I declare that restoration is my portion, what has been weakened will be strengthened, what has been bent will be made straight, and what has been lost to sickness will be fully recovered.

Reflection

Take a moment today to identify the one physical burden you have quietly stopped praying about, perhaps because time has made it feel permanent or because repeated disappointment has dulled your expectation. Write it down on paper, speak it aloud to God as a deliberate act of casting, and choose to leave it at His feet rather than carrying it back into your afternoon. Faith is rarely one dramatic leap; it is often the small, daily decision to let God hold what your hands were never strong enough to carry alone.
