Today’s Open Heaven devotional is a timely reminder that spiritual vitality is not automatic, it must be tended, replenished, and protected. Pastor Adeboye draws a beautiful parallel between the body’s need for food and rest and the soul’s need for deliberate spiritual nourishment. If you have been feeling dry, distant, or drained in your walk with God lately, this message was written with you in mind. Let it lead you back to the table where genuine strength is found.

Bible reading: Leviticus 17:11, Matthew 26:27-29 (KJV)

Memory verse: And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel. – Hebrews 12:24 (KJV)

God created man such that he would constantly need refuelling. That is why He made sure that every day would be followed by a night so that, if you have worked very hard during the day, you can sleep and refuel your energy at night. Also, after you have eaten breakfast and worked for some time, you are expected to take a break for lunch to refuel. The Almighty God created hunger to remind you that you are running low on energy, so you can go ahead and recharge by eating. In the same way batteries must be recharged from time to time so they can remain effective, you must constantly recharge yourself spiritually so that you will not become spiritually ineffective.

Whenever you begin to run low on spiritual energy, there will be a hunger in your spirit, and you will feel the need to refill. When that hunger comes, please don’t ignore it. Start fasting and praying immediately to recharge your spiritual energy. If you allow the hunger to persist, you will become weak, and this may cause you to faint in the day of adversity (Proverbs 24:10).

God, in His infinite mercy, has also provided the Holy Communion as a very effective way for Christians to refuel spiritually. The wine of the Holy Communion represents the blood of Jesus, and since the life of the flesh is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11), then the life of Jesus is in His blood. You cannot drink the blood of Jesus worthily and remain weak. People who belong to occult groups understand the power of blood. When members of the occult want to receive more power, they are asked to make sacrifices that involve blood. The greater the power they seek, the greater the sacrifices required. In most cases, those who rise to the highest levels of such groups are asked to drink the blood of their victims for quicker and greater empowerment. As children of God, when we partake of the Holy Communion, we partake of the blood of our risen Lord. Today’s memory verse tells us that the blood of Jesus speaks better things than that of Abel. When you are weak, the blood of Jesus will speak strength and might into you.

Beloved, never wait until you are completely drained of your spiritual strength. Whenever you find yourself getting weak spiritually, partake of the Holy Communion to recharge yourself, and you will receive fresh energy from the endless life of Christ.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.

Prayer Points

  • Lord, make me sensitive to the early signs of spiritual fatigue so I never drift into emptiness before I seek Your face.
  • Father, stir within me a genuine hunger for Your presence, the kind that drives me to prayer, fasting, and Your Word before weakness takes hold.
  • Holy Spirit, teach me to honour the Holy Communion as a sacred act of receiving Christ's life, not merely a religious routine.
  • Lord Jesus, let the power of Your blood speak loudly over every area of my life where I have grown tired, discouraged, or spiritually numb.
  • Father, I ask that You restore fresh energy and passion to my spirit today, let the life that flows from Your resurrection become evident in how I live and serve.
  • Lord, guard me against the pride that resists admitting weakness, give me the humility to run to You the moment I sense a need to refuel.
  • God, let the spiritual disciplines of prayer and fasting become a delight to me, not a burden, so I remain consistently strong in Your grace.
  • Father, let no adversity catch me spiritually unprepared, keep my inner life so full of You that I am able to stand firm and help others stand too.

Declarations

  • I am continually nourished by the life of Christ, and spiritual weakness has no permanent residence in me.
  • I honour the blood of Jesus and receive its power to renew my strength every time I come to the Lord's table in faith.
  • I am spiritually alert and responsive to every prompting that calls me back to God's presence before I run low.
  • The endless life of the risen Christ flows through me, and I refuse to settle for spiritual mediocrity or dry routine.
  • I will not faint in the day of adversity because I keep my spirit full through prayer, the Word, and fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

Reflection

Are you running on reserves you filled weeks ago, or are you drawing fresh strength daily? Identify one practical step you can take this week, whether setting aside time for intentional prayer, observing the Holy Communion, or beginning a short fast, and commit to it before this day ends.
