Memory verse: But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day. – Deuteronomy 8:18 (KJV)
When you enter into a covenant with the Owner of the earth and the fullness thereof (Psalm 24:1), the One who owns all the gold and the silver (Haggai 2:8), He will prosper you and add no sorrow to it (Proverbs 10:22).
The devil often lures people into entering into a covenant with him by promising them great wealth. However, such prosperity always comes with many sorrows. I recall the story of a man who went to a herbalist and entered into a covenant with demonic forces so that he could become incredibly wealthy for seven years, after which he would die. He swallowed a charm the herbalist gave him, but he didn’t get rich; instead, he had a seven-year countdown to his death. A few days before the seven years expired, the man ran into the church and told us his story. We told him to give his life to Jesus Christ, and He would protect him. He agreed, and we prayed a simple prayer with him. Right there, in the presence of everyone in the church, he vomited what he had swallowed. We rejoiced with him, and for a while after that, he attended church services regularly. After some time, however, he stopped coming, so we decided to conduct a follow-up. When we visited him, he said that the herbalist had told him he had swallowed the first charm incorrectly, so he gave him another one to swallow. Before long, he became wealthy. When the seven-year period stipulated by the covenant was close to expiring, he thought to himself, “The covenant is here in Nigeria. I will travel to London, and the demons won’t be able to reach me there.” Unfortunately, he died on a plane as he flew to London. Only God’s covenant of prosperity will make a fellow rich and add no sorrow with it.
Malachi 3:10 is a vital part of God’s covenant of prosperity. When you pay your tithe, God will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing upon you that will be so great that you will not have enough room to contain it. Furthermore, Proverbs 3:9-10 encourages us to honour God with our firstfruits. God doesn’t need money; He can provide for anything He wants to do, but He asks to be honoured. Beloved, once you are in covenant with God, He will always provide for you and make sure that you never lack. May your life always reflect the blessings of the Lord, in Jesus’ name

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today
These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.
Prayer Points
- Heavenly Father, thank You for being the source of every good and lasting gift, teach my heart to look to You alone as my provider and never to be seduced by counterfeit shortcuts to wealth.
- Lord, expose and dismantle every agreement, conscious or unconscious, that I or my family line may have made with darkness in exchange for material gain, and cleanse us thoroughly by the blood of Jesus.
- Give me the grace to remember You in seasons of abundance, just as Deuteronomy 8:18 commands, so that success never becomes an idol that quietly replaces my dependence on You.
- Father, as I honour You with my tithes and firstfruits, I ask that You release the overflowing blessing You promised in Malachi 3:10, open the windows of heaven over my life, my household, and my work.
- Protect me from the kind of prosperity that arrives with sorrow as a companion, let every blessing You send be clean, peaceful, and sustainable according to Proverbs 10:22.
- Raise up genuine accountability in my life, friends, mentors, and a church community that will speak truth when I am tempted to chase wealth through wrong means.
- Lord, for every person I know who has entered a harmful covenant seeking wealth, I intercede now, send labourers across their path, just as You sent help to that man in the story, before it is too late.
- Establish in me a generous spirit so that my financial life becomes a testimony of Your faithfulness rather than a monument to my own striving, let others see You in the way I give and the way I live.
Declarations
- I declare that my prosperity flows from the living God who gives me power to create wealth, and I will not compromise that covenant for any temporary gain.
- I am free from every covenant with darkness, the blood of Jesus has cancelled every agreement that would trade my life or peace for material wealth.
- God's blessing is the foundation of my abundance, and it comes with no sorrow, no hidden cost, and no expiry date attached to my life.
- I honour God with my firstfruits and my tithes, and I confidently expect the windows of heaven to open and pour out provision I cannot even contain.
- My future is secure in God's hands, no charm, no scheme, and no border I cross can separate me from the covenant promises He has sworn over my life.
Reflection
Take a quiet moment today to audit the places where you are tempted to trust strategy, networks, or clever manoeuvring more than you trust God’s covenant faithfulness. The man in today’s story had two chances to walk free, yet the lure of visible wealth pulled him back each time. Ask yourself honestly: Is there any area of my financial life where I am leaning on something other than God’s promise? Then do the simple, unglamorous thing, tithe faithfully, honour God with the first of what you receive, and refuse to despise the day of small beginnings. Covenant prosperity is rarely dramatic at the start; it is steady, clean, and worth every patient step.
