Claiming God’s promises in prayer is how you move from passive hope into active faith. When you’re facing chronic illness, financial collapse, a shattered relationship, or a dream that won’t die, the promises of God are not abstract theology. They are your weapon, your anchor, your legal standing in the courts of heaven. This guide shows you how to declare those promises with authority, align your prayers with Scripture, and watch God perform what He has spoken.
God knows His own Word. He doesn’t need reminding. But when you claim a promise out loud, something shifts in you and in the spiritual realm. You stop waiting passively for deliverance. You step into partnership with the Holy Spirit. You silence the voice of symptoms, test results, creditors, and fear. You amplify the voice of Jesus and His finished work.
2 Peter 1:4 calls God’s promises “exceedingly great and precious.” Not museum pieces to admire. Not wishes to hope for. Promises to claim. To stand on. To declare even when circumstances roar the opposite. Hebrews 10:23 says, “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Holding fast means you don’t drop the promise when the doctor’s report contradicts it. You hold fast when the bank account stays empty. You claim. You decree. You watch God move.
This is not presumption. This is authority. Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” Every promise God made is His will. And you have been given the right to call it down. Below, you’ll learn exactly how.

The Main Power Prayer for Claiming God’s Promises
Father, I come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, standing on the finished work of the cross and the authority of Your written Word. You said in Numbers 23:19 that You are not a man that You should lie, nor a son of man that You should repent. What You have spoken, You will bring to pass. What You have promised, You will perform. And today I claim every promise You have given me as my covenant inheritance.
I claim Your promise of provision, for You said in Philippians 4:19 that my God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. I refuse lack. I refuse poverty. I declare that I am blessed coming in and blessed going out, and the windows of heaven are open over my life. I claim Your promise of healing, for by the stripes of Jesus I am healed. I speak to every sickness, every infirmity, every pain in my body and command it to bow to the name of Jesus. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and I claim divine health as my portion.
I claim Your promise of protection, for You have given Your angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways. No weapon formed against me shall prosper. I dwell in the secret place of the Most High and abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I claim Your promise of peace, for You said in John 14:27, “My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you.” I refuse anxiety. I refuse fear. My mind is stayed on You, and You keep me in perfect peace.
I claim Your promise of salvation for my household, for You said in Acts 16:31, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” I stand on that Word. I declare that as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Every prodigal comes home. Every wayward child returns. Every unbelieving spouse encounters the living God. I claim Your promise of wisdom, for You said in James 1:5 that if any man lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives liberally. I ask, and I receive. Holy Spirit, lead me into all truth.
I claim Your promise of victory, for You said in 1 Corinthians 15:57, “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” I am more than a conqueror. I overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of my testimony. I claim every blessing, every inheritance, every covenant promise that belongs to me as a child of the Most High God. What You have said, I will see. What You have decreed, I will possess. I hold fast without wavering, for You who promised are faithful.
In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
Scripture Prayers for Claiming God’s Promises
Prayer 1 , Based on Joshua 1:8
Father, Your Word says that if I meditate on Your law day and night, and observe to do according to all that is written in it, then I will make my way prosperous and have good success. I claim that promise now. I declare that Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. As I speak it, decree it, and live by it, You make my way prosperous. Success is my portion. Favor surrounds me like a shield. I will not depart from Your Word, and Your Word will not depart from me.
Prayer 2 , Based on Matthew 21:22
Lord Jesus, You said, “Whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” I claim that promise with holy boldness. I ask according to Your will, and I believe I receive. My faith is not in my feelings or my circumstances, it is in Your unchanging Word. What I have asked, I have. What I have prayed, I possess. Doubt has no place in my heart. I believe, and I speak, and I watch heaven move on my behalf.
Prayer 3 , Based on Psalm 91:10-11
Father, You promised that no evil shall befall me, nor shall any plague come near my dwelling. You have given Your angels charge over me to keep me in all my ways. I claim that covering now. I speak divine protection over my home, my family, my children, my finances, my health. Every assignment of the enemy is cancelled. Every trap is exposed and destroyed. I walk in supernatural safety because I dwell in the secret place of the Most High.
Prayer 4 , Based on 3 John 1:2
Beloved, You desire above all things that I prosper and be in health, even as my soul prospers. I claim that promise. I declare that as my soul prospers in the knowledge of God, my body prospers in health and my circumstances prosper in abundance. Sickness has no hold on me. Poverty has no claim on me. I am prosperous spirit, soul, and body, according to Your Word.
Prayer 5 , Based on Romans 8:28
Father, You promised that all things work together for good to those who love You, to those who are the called according to Your purpose. I claim that promise over every trial, every delay, every closed door, every setback. What the enemy meant for evil, You are turning for my good. You are working behind the scenes. You are weaving every thread into a testimony. I will not waste my pain. I will not lose heart. I trust You, and I claim Romans 8:28 over every area of my life.
Prayer 6 , Based on Isaiah 54:17
Lord, You declared that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against me in judgment I shall condemn. This is my heritage as a servant of the Lord. I claim it. I decree it. Every curse is broken. Every accusation is silenced. Every scheme of the enemy collapses. I am covered by the blood of Jesus, and no weapon of hell can touch me. My vindication comes from You.
Prayer 7 , Based on Jeremiah 29:11
Father, You said You know the plans You have for me, plans to prosper me and not to harm me, plans to give me hope and a future. I claim that promise. I refuse the voice of despair. I refuse the lie that my best days are behind me. You have a future for me. You have hope for me. You have plans that will blow my mind. I step into my destiny with confidence, knowing that what You have ordained, no man can stop.
Prayer 8 , Based on Mark 11:23-24
Jesus, You said that if I speak to the mountain and do not doubt in my heart, but believe that what I say will come to pass, I will have whatever I say. I claim that authority now. I speak to every mountain in my life: the mountain of debt, the mountain of sickness, the mountain of barrenness, the mountain of stagnation. I command you to be removed and cast into the sea. I believe I receive what I have prayed, and I give You praise in advance.

Prayers for Specific Situations When Claiming God’s Promises
When You’re Claiming Healing
Father, I stand on Your promise in Exodus 15:26, where You revealed Yourself as Jehovah Rapha, the Lord who heals. You said if I diligently heed Your voice and do what is right in Your sight, You will put none of the diseases on me that You brought on the Egyptians, for You are the Lord who heals me. I claim that covenant now. I speak to every cell in my body and command it to line up with the Word of God. By the stripes of Jesus I am healed. I refuse to accept sickness as my portion. I declare that the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in me and gives life to my mortal body. Every symptom bows. Every diagnosis is overruled. I claim divine health as my inheritance in Jesus’ name.
When You’re Claiming Financial Breakthrough
Lord, You promised in Malachi 3:10 that if I bring all the tithes into the storehouse, You will open the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing I cannot contain. I claim that promise. I have been faithful. I have sown in obedience. Now I call forth the harvest. I decree that You rebuke the devourer for my sake. I declare that my barns are filled with plenty and my vats overflow with new wine. Poverty is broken. Lack is cancelled. I am a lender and not a borrower. The wealth of the wicked is stored up for me, and I claim it now in the name of Jesus.
When You’re Claiming Deliverance for a Loved One
Father, You said in Isaiah 49:25 that You will contend with him who contends with me, and You will save my children. I claim that Word over my prodigal son, my wayward daughter, my unsaved spouse. I bind every spirit of rebellion, addiction, deception, and unbelief that has held them captive. I loose the Spirit of the Lord over their life. I declare that they will come to their senses and return home, just like the prodigal in Luke 15. I stand on Acts 16:31, that they will be saved. I will not stop praying. I will not stop believing. I claim their salvation as a done deal in the courts of heaven.
When You’re Claiming a Delayed Promise
Lord, You promised in Habakkuk 2:3 that the vision is for an appointed time, and though it tarries, I should wait for it, because it will surely come. I claim that Word. I refuse to grow weary. I refuse to give up. What You have spoken, You will perform. The delay is not a denial. It is a setup for greater glory. I stand in faith. I hold fast my confession. I declare that my breakthrough is on the way, and I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
When You’re Claiming Peace in the Storm
Father, You said in John 16:33 that in this world I will have tribulation, but I should be of good cheer because You have overcome the world. I claim that peace now. I refuse to let my heart be troubled. I cast every care on You, knowing that You care for me. I declare that You are giving Your angels charge over me. I am kept in perfect peace because my mind is stayed on You. The storm may rage, but I am hidden in the secret place. I claim Psalm 91 as my dwelling place, and I rest in Your promises.

Practical Steps to Activate Claiming God’s Promises in Prayer
Step 1: Write down the promises God has given you. Go through Scripture and list every promise that applies to your situation. Keep a promise journal. Make it personal. Write your name in the verse. Turn it into a declaration.
Step 2: Pray the promises out loud every morning. There is power in speaking. Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing. Let your own ears hear the Word of God coming out of your mouth. Morning prayers declaring God’s promises set the atmosphere for the entire day.
Step 3: Stand on the promises even when you feel nothing. Feelings lie. Circumstances change. God’s Word does not. Standing on the promises of God means you hold your ground in the dark, in the delay, in the disappointment.
Step 4: Worship before you war. When you come to God declaring God’s promises, come first with thanksgiving. Acknowledge what He has already done. Worship softens the soil of your heart so the seed of the Word can take root.
Step 5: Pray with a partner who believes with you. Matthew 18:19 says if two agree on earth concerning anything they ask, it will be done. Find someone who will stand in faith with you. Pray together. Hold each other accountable.
Step 6: Seal your prayers at night. End every day declaring God’s promises over your sleep. Let the Word be the last thing on your lips. Your subconscious will meditate on it while you rest.
Step 7: Expect manifestation. Mark 11:24 says when you pray, believe you receive, and you will have it. Praise God in advance. Walk like it’s already done. Talk like it’s already done. Live from the promise, not toward it.
Biblical Examples of Claiming God’s Promises
Abraham and the Promise of a Son
God promised Abraham a son when he was 75 years old. He waited 25 years. Every year that passed screamed, “It’s not going to happen.” But Romans 4:20-21 says Abraham “did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” Abraham claimed the promise. He called himself “father of many nations” before Isaac was born. And God honored it.
David and the Promise of the Kingdom
Samuel anointed David king when he was a teenager. But David spent years running from Saul, hiding in caves, sleeping in the wilderness. He had every reason to believe the promise had expired. But David held fast. He refused to take the throne by force. He trusted God’s timing. And 2 Samuel 5:12 says, “David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel.” What God promised, God performed.
Hannah and the Promise of a Child
Hannah was barren. Mocked. Broken. But she prayed. She made a vow. She claimed the promise of God over her womb. And 1 Samuel 1:19-20 says, “The Lord remembered her. And in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son.” She didn’t beg. She claimed. And heaven responded.

Closing Encouragement
God’s promises are not up for negotiation. They are already settled in heaven. Your job is not to convince God. Your job is to claim what He already said, to stand on it like Abraham, to hold fast like David, to refuse to let go like Jacob at the Jabbok.
The enemy will tell you it’s too late. That you’ve missed it. That the promise expired.
But God says in 2 Peter 1:4, “He has given us exceedingly great and precious promises.” Not past tense. Not hypothetical. Given. Present. Active. Yours.
Claim them. Pray them. Stand on them.
And watch God move heaven and earth to honor His Word.
What God has promised, you will possess.
