There is a moment in Numbers 22 that stopped me cold the first time I really sat with it. Balaam is riding his donkey down a familiar road, confident he knows exactly where he is going and what is happening around him. He does not. An angel of the Lord is standing directly in his path, sword drawn, and Balaam cannot see it at all. The donkey can. Three times the animal veers off course, and three times Balaam strikes her in frustration. He is not wicked in this moment. He is simply blind.

That is the most unsettling part. He is moving, busy, purposeful, and completely unable to perceive the spiritual reality right in front of him. Some of us are living that story today. We are navigating a relationship, pressing into a calling, walking a path, and something keeps feeling off. We are frustrated. We keep striking at what we cannot see.

Then the Lord opens Balaam’s eyes. Not a vision. Not a dream. Just the same road, the same moment, suddenly seen rightly. That is what today’s prayer is asking for: not a new road, but new eyes for the one you are already on.

God is not withholding sight from you as punishment. He is the one who opens eyes. Come to Him and ask. He is ready to answer.
