Devotional: The Promise Holds Before the Step Does

There is a step in front of you that you have been circling for longer than you would like to admit. You know what God said. You have read the promise, prayed over it, and written it in the margins of your Bible. But the gap between the promise and the pavement still feels enormous, and your legs are not moving.

That is exactly where Abraham lived. God told him he would father nations, and his body was as good as dead. The math did not work. The biology was against him. And yet Romans 4:20 says he did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God (NLT). He was not strengthened because the circumstances changed. He was strengthened because he kept his eyes on the One who made the promise instead of the problem that surrounded it.
