A Prayer for India on Independence Day

August 15. Independence Day. India.

Somewhere in Delhi a flag rises. Somewhere in Kerala a boy asks his father what the tricolour means. And somewhere in an ordinary house, a believer decides today is not just for the parade.

Today is for prayer.

Pray these with me. Short. Strategic. Rooted in the Word. Take them out loud, one at a time. Heaven bends toward a nation that is prayed for.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NIV)

Pray these, 13 strategic bullets for India today

1. Peace over India. Father, I ask You to seek the peace of India today, because Jeremiah 29:7 says when the city prospers, we prosper with it. Let peace guard her borders and her streets, in Jesus’ name.

2. Her leaders by name. I pray for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Droupadi Murmu. I pray for the Cabinet, every Chief Minister, and every Member of Parliament. Give them wisdom that is from above, pure, peaceable, gentle, full of mercy and good fruit (James 3:17). Let their yes be yes and their no be no.

3. Righteousness in high places. I decree that righteousness will exalt this nation, and sin will be a reproach to her (Proverbs 14:34). Expose what must be exposed. Establish what must be established.

4. The Church in India. Lord, strengthen Your Church, from the ancient Thomas Christians of Kerala to the newest house fellowship in Uttar Pradesh. Let her be one, as Jesus prayed in John 17:21.

5. Family altars. I pray for households across India, that as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15). Raise up praying fathers and interceding mothers.

6. The next generation. Because Isaiah 44:3 says You will pour out Your Spirit on our offspring, I ask for a fresh outpouring on India’s young, students in Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata. Save them. Send them.

7. Provision and honest labor. Bless the work of Indian hands (Psalm 90:17), the farmer in Punjab, the coder in Hyderabad, the fisherman in Tamil Nadu, the shopkeeper in Kanpur. Let no honest worker lack bread.

8. Protection from violence. No weapon formed against India will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Cover her from terror, from riot, from the shooter and the plotter. Frustrate the tongues of those who plan evil.

9. For the flood-hit today. This monsoon has been heavy on Kerala, Himachal, Uttarakhand, and every place the rivers have risen. Lord, You said You would be with us as we pass through the waters (Isaiah 43:2). Cover every displaced family. Send rescue teams. Restore what the flood has swept. Turn mourning into shelter and warmth tonight.

10. Healing of divisions. You have made from one blood every nation (Acts 17:26). Heal the fractures between faith and faith, caste and caste, language and language. Where the enemy has sown division, sow Your Spirit of reconciliation.

11. Justice for the poor. I ask for justice to roll like a river (Amos 5:24), for the widow in the village, the migrant in the city, the girl child, the Dalit believer, the trafficked one. Let the courts hear the poor.

12. The persecuted Church. Strengthen every believer under pressure. I pray Acts 4:29 over them, grant Your servants boldness to speak Your word, while You stretch out Your hand to heal.

13. A fresh move of God. Because You said You would do a new thing (Isaiah 43:19), I ask for a new thing in India today. A hunger for Jesus that no religion, no politics, no algorithm can satisfy. Come, Holy Spirit.

Pray this now

Father, I stand with You for India today. Send Your peace. Raise up Your Church. Bless the ordinary homes where prayer is made. Silence the voice of division. Awaken hearts. And Lord, count me among those who prayed for this nation on August 15, 2026. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
