A Prayer for America on Independence Day

July 4. Independence Day. America.

Somewhere in Boston a bell rings at dawn. Somewhere in Iowa a farmer stops the tractor and takes his cap off for the anthem on the porch radio.

Somewhere in Los Angeles a young mother watches wildfire smoke drift across her kitchen window and quietly asks God to hold the country together one more year.

Today is for prayer.

Pray these with me. Short. Strategic. Rooted in the Word. Take them out loud, one at a time. Heaven bends toward a nation that is prayed for.

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people, for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”
1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NIV)

Pray these, 13 strategic bullets for America today

1. Peace over America. Father, I ask You to seek the peace of this land today, because Jeremiah 29:7 says when the city prospers, we prosper with it. Let peace guard her borders, her cities, and her small towns, in Jesus’ name.

2. Her leaders by name. I pray for President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance. I pray for the Cabinet, every Governor, every Senator, and every Representative. Give them wisdom that is from above, pure, peaceable, gentle, full of mercy and good fruit (James 3:17). Let their yes be yes and their no be no.

3. Righteousness in high places. I decree that righteousness will exalt this nation, and sin will be a reproach to her (Proverbs 14:34). Expose what must be exposed. Establish what must be established. Let the fear of the Lord return to the halls of power.

4. The Church in America. Lord, strengthen Your Church, from the old Puritan pulpits of New England to the Azusa Street outpouring of Los Angeles, from the storefront congregations of Detroit to the great gatherings of the South. Let her be one, as Jesus prayed in John 17:21.

5. Family altars. I pray for American households, that as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord (Joshua 24:15). Raise up praying fathers. Raise up interceding mothers. Return the family table to prayer.

6. The next generation. Because Isaiah 44:3 says You will pour out Your Spirit on our offspring, I ask for a fresh outpouring on America’s young, students in Nashville, Atlanta, Houston, Chicago, and New York. Save them. Send them.

7. Provision and honest labor. Bless the work of American hands (Psalm 90:17), the farmer in Iowa, the welder in Pittsburgh, the coder in the Bay Area, the nurse in Dallas, the teacher in Cleveland. Let no honest worker lack bread.

8. Protection from violence. No weapon formed against America will prosper (Isaiah 54:17). Cover her from the shooter, from the terror plot, from the mass event turned tragedy. Frustrate every tongue that plans evil against her people.

9. For the fire-hit today. This summer has been heavy on the West, on Spokane, on Oregon, on every county where the sky has gone orange. Lord, You said You would be with us when we walk through the fire (Isaiah 43:2). Cover every displaced family. Strengthen every firefighter and every first responder. Restore what the flames have taken.

10. Healing of divisions. You have made from one blood every nation (Acts 17:26). Heal the fractures between race and race, party and party, coast and coast. Where the enemy has sown division, sow Your Spirit of reconciliation.

11. Justice for the vulnerable. I ask for justice to roll like a river (Amos 5:24), for the homeless veteran, the child in foster care, the unborn, the addicted, the trafficked one. Let the courts hear the cry of the poor.

12. American missionaries. Bless every American sent to the ends of the earth, from the medical worker in Africa to the Bible carrier in Asia. Strengthen them with Acts 4:29 boldness. Bring the harvest with them, and bring them home in peace.

13. A fresh move of God. Because You said You would do a new thing (Isaiah 43:19), I ask for a new thing in America today. A hunger for Jesus that no politics, no entertainment, no algorithm can satisfy. Come, Holy Spirit.

Pray this now

Father, I stand with You for America today. Send Your peace. Raise up Your Church. Bless the ordinary homes where prayer is made. Silence the voice of division. Awaken hearts from Maine to Alaska. And Lord, count me among those who prayed for this nation on July 4, 2027. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
