Today’s Open Heaven devotional invites us into one of Scripture’s most breathtaking comeback stories, the life of Joseph, and dares us to hold our ground when life seems to be moving in the wrong direction. If you are carrying a promise that feels long overdue, or a dream that circumstances seem to have buried, this message was written for you. Pastor E.A. Adeboye reminds us that God’s timing is sovereign and His word over your life is not subject to cancellation. Settle in, open your heart, and let today’s reading become an anchor for your faith.

Bible reading: Genesis 41:37-44 (KJV)
Memory verse: For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off. – Proverbs 23:18 (KJV)
Joseph is a good example of someone who never gave up despite the grave challenges that came his way. In Genesis 37:5-23, he had great dreams, but when he shared them with his brothers, they felt threatened. They conspired to kill him, but eventually agreed to sell him into slavery. This, however, did not distract Joseph. He knew he was destined for greatness, so he worked diligently until he became a leader among his fellow slaves. Then, the wife of his master tried to seduce him, and he refused her advances because he did not want to offend the God who gave him those great dreams (Genesis 39:9). He knew that as long as he didn’t offend God, he would achieve his dreams. Later, the wife of his master lied against him, and he ended up in prison, where he also became a leader among his fellow prisoners. Eventually, after many years, God took him prisoners. from being a prisoner to becoming the Prime Minister of Egypt within a single day. One single move from God made his dreams become a reality. If God could promote a prisoner to such an exalted position, He can take you to any height you desire.
In 1981, when I first became the General Overseer of the RCCG, I visited one of the few parishes we had in Lagos at the time. During my visit, a woman came to one of the programmes we held after it had concluded because she thought it was an evening programme. When she came, I had left; therefore, she fell on the ground crying, “God, now I know You don’t want me to have a child.” She had told herself that all she needed to do was set her eyes on the man of God, and she would conceive. When people asked her why she was crying, she explained, and they told her where I would be the next day. The next morning, she came to the venue I was in, and as soon as I got up to preach, she looked at me and said, “God, thank You.” That month, she became pregnant because her faith touched God. She didn’t give up on what she wanted.
Beloved, don’t give up. God’s word to you will surely come to pass. If you hold on to the promises He has given you and continue to follow His leading, He will bring your dreams to a place of fulfilment according to His will, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today
These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.
Prayer Points
- Lord, where weariness has crept into my spirit and I have been tempted to let go of Your promises, breathe fresh endurance into me today.
- Father, just as You preserved Joseph through every pit and prison, preserve my destiny from every hand that has risen against it.
- I pray for everyone reading this who has suffered betrayal from those closest to them, heal every wound and redeem every loss for Your glory.
- God, grant me the moral courage to honour You in private, even when compromise would make my circumstances more comfortable.
- Lord, I ask for the grace to remain diligent and excellent in whatever season I find myself, knowing that faithfulness in obscurity prepares me for promotion.
- Father, silence every lying voice that has shaped a false narrative about my life, and let truth vindicate me in Your perfect time.
- Holy Spirit, sharpen my ability to recognise Your hand moving on my behalf, even when the breakthrough looks nothing like I imagined.
- Lord, I lift before You every person who is one moment away from their turnaround, let this be the day You act swiftly and unmistakably on their behalf.
Declarations
- I am not defined by the seasons I have endured but by the God who has been with me through every one of them.
- Every promise God has spoken over my life is alive and active, and I will not abandon what Heaven has not cancelled.
- I choose obedience over convenience, and I trust that honouring God in the difficult moments is the very ground from which my breakthrough will spring.
- My setbacks are not the final chapter; God is the Author of my story, and He does not write stories that end in defeat.
- I receive supernatural staying power today, I will outlast every delay, outlive every obstacle, and walk into the fullness of what God has prepared for me.
Reflection
Take a few moments today to write down one promise or dream you have quietly begun to let go of. Ask yourself honestly: have you released it because God redirected you, or because disappointment made it easier to stop hoping? If it still resonates as something God placed in your heart, choose today to pick it back up and place it, with open hands, before Him again. Faithfulness does not mean striving harder; it means refusing to walk away from what God has not walked away from.
