Today’s Open Heaven devotional from Pastor E.A. Adeboye delivers a timely and sobering call to examine the condition of our hearts before Christ’s return. If you’ve been holding on to an old wound, nursing quiet resentment, or simply drifting through each day without urgency, this message speaks directly to you. Readiness for eternity is not just about what we believe, it shows up in how quickly we choose to forgive and release. Let today be the day you settle what needs to be settled.

Memory verse: Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: – Ephesians 4:26 (KJV)

Jesus can return at any time. This is why my wife and I ensure that we settle any misunderstandings between us before we go to sleep, because we don’t want to be left behind. I don’t want anything to keep me from going with the Lord when He returns.

In today’s memory verse, Paul urges us not to allow the sun to go down upon our wrath. Never go to sleep angry or with grudges in your heart. Do not let anger fester, for it can create a barrier between you and God. Ephesians 4:31 says that you should put away all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamour, evil speaking, and malice. Cast them off because they will keep you from going with the Lord when He returns.

Child of God, settle any issues you have with others quickly so they do not hinder you from being a partaker of God’s Kingdom when He returns. If you find it very easy to keep a grudge, run to God for help today. Ask Him for the grace to forgive those who offend you, even if they have not asked for your forgiveness. Do not allow offence or anything at all to separate you from the Lord for eternity.

For believers, death is merely like falling asleep because a glorious eternity awaits us (1 Thessalonians 4:13). For those living in sin, however, eternal damnation awaits them after death (Hebrews 9:27, Revelation 21:8). This is why you must live your life prepared to meet the Lord at any time. Settle every matter as quickly as possible because you do not know the moment when your eternal sleep will begin.

One man of God said that the Sunday after the rapture, some churches will still be full. The pastors will still be there to preach, but this time around, their preaching will not be casual. They will stand on their pulpits and say, “I knew this event was going to happen, but I didn’t prepare myself and this congregation for it.” They might apologise to the congregation who will be left behind, but their apologies will be useless at that point.

Beloved, if you miss the rapture, all the time you have spent in church will be in vain. Forgive those who have hurt you; let it go! I pray that God will give you the strength and courage to deal with anything in your life that can cause you to miss the rapture, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.

Prayer Points

  • Lord, search my heart right now and reveal any hidden anger or unresolved bitterness I have been carrying without realising it.
  • Father, give me the supernatural grace to forgive every person who has wounded me, even those who have never said sorry, because I choose relationship with You over the weight of offence.
  • Holy Spirit, help me to cultivate a lifestyle of quick reconciliation, so that no grudge ever survives the setting of the sun in my home or my heart.
  • Lord Jesus, keep me spiritually awake and alert in this hour, free from the spiritual drowsiness that comes when sin is tolerated and left unaddressed.
  • Father, let nothing, no offence, no pride, no comfort zone, create a barrier between me and Your presence when You return for Your own.
  • God, I pray for every believer around me: awaken in us a holy urgency, that we would live each day fully prepared to stand before You without shame.
  • Lord, forgive me for every moment I have been casual about eternity, strengthen my resolve to live, speak, and love as someone who is genuinely ready for Your appearing.
  • Father, let the fear of missing what You have prepared for those who love You be a daily motivation that drives me to pursue peace with all people and holiness toward You.

Declarations

  • I refuse to let bitterness take root in me, I release every offence and walk in the freedom of forgiveness today.
  • I am a person of peace; I deal with conflict quickly, humbly, and with grace, because my eternity is more valuable than my pride.
  • I am spiritually awake and alive in Christ, clothed in His righteousness, and standing ready for His return.
  • The love of God in me is stronger than every hurt that has been done to me, I choose to forgive as I have been forgiven.
  • Nothing shall separate me from the love of God or from my place in His Kingdom, I live prepared, I live surrendered, I live expectant.

Reflection

Take sixty seconds before you continue your day and ask yourself honestly: is there someone whose name makes your chest tighten? A message you have been avoiding sending? A conversation you keep postponing? Readiness for eternity is not an abstract spiritual concept, it is visible in the texture of your relationships today. Write that name down, say a quiet prayer for that person, and take the smallest possible step toward peace. You do not need to feel ready to act; act, and the feeling will follow.
