Today’s Open Heaven devotional is a loving but urgent call to examine the condition of your heart right now, not tomorrow, not after one more season of compromise. Pastor Adeboye continues his series on the second coming of Christ, reminding us that readiness is not a one-time decision but a daily posture. Whether you are a new believer finding your footing or a seasoned Christian who needs a fresh stirring, this devotional speaks directly to you. Let these prayers, declarations, and reflections help you move from merely knowing about His return to truly living prepared for it.

Topic: Will You Be Ready (2)

Devotional: Open Heaven (RCCG)

Date: 2026-10-05

Bible reading: y also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. – Luke 12:40 (KJV)

Memory verse: Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not. – Luke 12:40 (KJV)

Jesus likened His second coming to the time when God destroyed the earth with a flood (Genesis 7:11-23) and when He destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire (Genesis 19:24-25). Just as it was in the times of Noah and Lot, when people were eating, drinking, getting married, building, planting, buying, and selling, so will it be when the Lord returns (Luke 17:26-30). Life will continue as usual until the Lord’s coming interrupts and changes everything. Imagine a believer who gives in to a temptation just a split second before the rapture takes place. Such a fellow has clearly chosen not to spend eternity with the Lord. I pray that you will be watchful and ready to make heaven when the Lord returns, in Jesus’ name.

Yesterday, I discussed three important things about the Lord’s return. Today, I will discuss the remaining three:

It will be unexpected for the unprepared: 2 Peter 3:10 says that the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night. It is important to note, however, that not everyone is caught unawares by thieves. Matthew 24:43 says that if the goodman of a house had known when a thief would come, he would have watched and prevented his house from being broken up. Stay aware and alert so that you will not miss the rapture.

It will not be done in secret: Everybody will know when the Lord returns, whether sinner or saint. Matthew 24:27 says that as the lightning comes out of the east and shines even unto the west, so shall the Lord’s coming be. When lightning flashes across the sky, everyone sees it. Likewise, the Lord’s return will not be a secret event; the whole world will see those who join Him and those who are left behind. The secret of those who have been pretending to be children of God will be revealed on that day.

Jesus is coming for a pure and spotless bride: Ephesians 5:22-33 tells us that the Church is the Bride of Christ. The Church refers to Christians, not buildings, and you must understand that whatever is expected of the Church is also expected of you. When Jesus returns, only those whose garments are spotless will go with Him. ‘Garment’ here refers to your life. Only those who allow the Lord to sanctify and cleanse them will be His Bride on that day (Ephesians 5:26-27). Beloved, will you be among them?

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.

Prayer Points

  • Lord, cultivate in me a constant awareness of Your nearness, so that no season of comfort or distraction ever dulls my expectation of Your return.
  • Father, expose every hidden compromise in my life, the subtle sins I have normalized, and grant me genuine repentance before it is too late.
  • Holy Spirit, be my internal alarm system; alert me the moment my heart begins to drift toward anything that would leave me unready to meet Jesus.
  • Lord Jesus, cleanse my garment, my daily walk, my private thoughts, my secret habits, so that I stand spotless before You on that great day.
  • Father, remove every false security I have built on outward religious appearance, and let my readiness be rooted in authentic relationship with You.
  • God, grant me a holy sobriety that keeps me watchful without breeding fear, trusting that Your grace is sufficient to keep me until the end.
  • Lord, stir up in my local church community a culture of mutual accountability, so that we help one another stay alert and encourage one another toward holiness.
  • Father, for everyone reading this who has been drifting or lukewarm, let today be the turning point, a day of genuine recommitment to living fully for You.

Declarations

  • I am not caught off guard by the signs of the times; I walk in spiritual alertness every single day, anchored in God's Word and sustained by His Spirit.
  • My life is an open book before God, I choose transparency, repentance, and holiness as a lifestyle, not a performance for others.
  • I am part of a pure and spotless Bride; I yield daily to the sanctifying work of Christ so that my walk matches my confession.
  • I will not trade eternal readiness for temporary pleasure; I am governed by an eternal perspective that shapes every decision I make.
  • The return of Jesus Christ is not a source of dread for me but a blessed hope I run toward, because I have settled my heart in His love and obedience.

Reflection

Readiness for Christ’s return is less about tracking prophetic timelines and more about the quality of your everyday choices when no one is watching. Ask yourself honestly: if the trumpet sounded in the middle of your most private moment today, would you be at peace? The goal is not to live in anxiety but to close the gap between who you are in public and who you are alone, because that gap is exactly where unreadiness hides. Start today by surrendering one specific area you have been holding back from God, and let that surrender become your daily rhythm.
