Today’s Open Heaven devotional invites you into a profound truth: God Himself is a consuming fire, and His children walk wrapped in that very flame. Whether you are facing unseen bondage, unexplained affliction, or an enemy that thinks it has the upper hand, this message is for you. Pastor E.A. Adeboye reminds us that belonging to God means His fire distinguishes between what must be destroyed and what must be preserved, and you are always on the right side of that distinction.

Topic: Shielded By His Fire

Bible reading: Exodus 14:19-24 (KJV)

Memory verse: Understand therefore this day, that the Lord thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the Lord hath said unto thee. – Deuteronomy 9:3 (KJV)

For our God is a consuming fire. – Hebrews 12:29

There is something you need to understand about fire: whenever it touches anything, it transforms that thing into itself. If it touches a piece of cloth and it begins to burn, that piece of cloth will be said to have caught fire. Also, if it comes in contact with wood, it will ignite the wood, and that wood is then referred to as firewood. Similarly, anyone who is a child of God, the Consuming Fire, is automatically shielded by His fire. In Zechariah 2:5, the Bible says, “For I, saith the LORD, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and will be the glory in the midst of her.”

In Judges 15:14-15, Samson was bound with ropes and was presented before his enemies. His enemies thought that they had already subdued him; however, the fire of God came upon him mightily, and the ropes were burnt. The Bible tells us that he killed a thousand of them thereafter. Beloved, I decree today that the Consuming Fire will deal with whoever might be trying to put you in any form of bondage, in Jesus’ name.

Daniel 3:1-30 is a well-known story of how Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were cast into the fiery furnace because they refused to bow down to worship the king’s golden image. The fire was so hot that it killed those who threw them in it. However, because God was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, only the ropes that were used to bind them were burnt; the Consuming Fire shielded them from the fire, and they came out of it unhurt.

I remember the testimony of one of my sons, who partook of the Holy Communion during one of the Holy Ghost Services. Before then, doctors had been struggling to identify what was causing him pain inside his throat. However, after partaking of the Holy Communion, the Consuming Fire dealt with what was causing him pain, and he was completely healed. I decree that whatever my Father has not planted in your body will be uprooted and consumed by fire, in Jesus’ name.

In today’s Bible reading, we see that while the Consuming Fire was a light and a shield to the Israelites, it was a terror to the Egyptians. Beloved, if you want to be shielded by the Consuming Fire and not consumed by Him, you must belong to His camp. Do you belong to the Lord’s camp?

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.

Prayer Points

  • Lord, let Your consuming fire encircle every area of my life today and burn away every work of darkness that has tried to take root, in Jesus' name.
  • Father, just as You shielded those who trusted You in the midst of literal flames, shield me from every force, spiritual, physical, or emotional, that is working against my peace and destiny.
  • Consuming Fire, burn through every rope of limitation and bondage that has been fashioned to keep me from walking in my God-given freedom and purpose.
  • Lord, I pray for every person I love who has not yet entered Your camp, let them encounter Your fire not as judgment but as invitation, and may they run into Your arms today.
  • Father, whatever has taken residence in my body, my mind, or my spirit that You did not plant there, let Your fire locate it and consume it completely, leaving no trace behind.
  • God of the pillar of fire, be a constant light before me and a terror to every enemy that dares to pursue my purpose; let confusion and retreat be their portion as it was for the enemies of Israel.
  • Holy Spirit, set my heart ablaze with fresh passion for God so that my very life becomes a testimony of what it means to be shielded and transformed by His presence.
  • Lord, thank You that Your fire never destroys the one who belongs to You, teach me to abide so closely that I am always found within the wall of Your glory.

Declarations

  • I am a child of the Consuming Fire, and no weapon, no sickness, and no spiritual chain can withstand the flame that surrounds my life.
  • Because I belong to God's camp, His fire goes before me, distinguishing between my enemies and me, I walk in divine protection every single day.
  • Every bondage assigned to my story is already burning in the presence of my God, and I walk forward in the freedom He has declared over me.
  • I declare that what God has not planted in my body, my family, or my future is being uprooted by fire right now, and wholeness is my inheritance.
  • The same fire that terrifies my adversaries is the very glory that lights my path, I am not consumed; I am covered, sustained, and glorified in His name.

Reflection

Take a moment today to honestly examine which camp you are living from. Belonging to God is not simply a label we carry, it is a daily posture of surrender, worship, and trust that keeps us inside the wall of His fire rather than exposed to it. If there is any area of your life where you have been wandering outside of His presence, His fire is not waiting to destroy you; it is waiting to draw you back in. Step into His camp with intention today, and let the same flame that undoes your enemies become the glory that defines your story.
