Bible reading: Revelation 21:1-11 (KJV)
Memory verse: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. – John 14:3 (KJV)
Yesterday, I mentioned that some people treat the earth as their home and final resting place. There is, however, another set of people who see heaven as their home and conduct their lives in a way that ensures they will end up there. I am one of such people. I also mentioned yesterday that the earth and everything inside it are temporal. In Revelation 21:1, the Bible says that this earth will pass away someday, then verse 2 says:
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
The Scripture above makes us understand that when the earth passes away, people who did not take the earth as their home, those who remained faithful to Jesus Christ, the Husband of the Church, will be in a new Jerusalem that will descend from God out of heaven. When you read the passage in today’s Bible reading further, you will find out that as genuine Christians, we will dwell with God in the same city and be with Him at all times. There will be no more sorrow or weeping for us forever. This is why I do not mind sacrificing anything in this world as long as I make it to heaven. This is because I know that when I get there, it will be joy forevermore. Indeed, as Romans 8:35-39 says, nothing will ever separate me from the love of my Father, and I am determined to spend eternity with Him. This earth is not my home; therefore, nothing here is as important as my goal of making it to heaven. When people see me still going on long prayer walks at my age, travelling from place to place to preach the gospel, giving to the poor, and spending and being spent for God, they may not know it or understand it, but I am laying up treasures for myself in heaven because that is my final destination; that is my home.
I have been shown glimpses of heaven in visions a few times before. Anyone who has experienced the beauty of heaven will not desire to be anywhere else because God’s glory lightens the city, and the Lamb is the light in it (Revelation 21:23). Beloved, do everything possible to ensure that you make it to heaven. I pray that I will see you there, in Jesus’ name.

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.
Prayer Points
- Lord, deepen my conviction that heaven is my true home, so that every earthly decision I make reflects that eternal perspective.
- Father, wherever my heart has grown too attached to the passing things of this world, loosen that grip gently by Your Spirit and redirect my affections toward You.
- Give me the grace to live faithfully as a citizen of heaven even while I dwell on earth, so that my conduct becomes a testimony of where I truly belong.
- Holy Spirit, let the reality of the new Jerusalem, a city lit by Your glory and free from all sorrow, become more vivid to me than the distractions of daily life.
- Lord, strengthen me to keep making investments of time, prayer, generosity, and service that outlast this world and accumulate as eternal treasure.
- Father, I pray for every person who has mistaken this earth for a final destination, open their eyes to the hope that lies beyond, and draw them to saving faith in Jesus.
- Jesus, prepare me as Your bride, purified, devoted, and ready, so that when You come again I will be found watching and waiting with a joyful heart.
- God of eternity, let nothing in this season, no loss, no comfort, no ambition, become more important to me than the singular goal of spending forever in Your presence.
Declarations
- I am a citizen of heaven, and I carry that identity into every space I occupy on earth today.
- Nothing this world offers can outweigh the eternal joy awaiting me in God's presence, and I choose that joy as my highest pursuit.
- I am not defined by what I own, achieve, or accumulate here, because my real inheritance is being kept for me in a city whose builder and maker is God.
- The love of my Heavenly Father holds me securely, and I declare that no trial, temptation, or temporary pleasure will ever sever me from that love.
- I live with eternity in view, my giving, my prayers, my service, and my faithfulness are seeds sown into a harvest that will last forever.
Reflection
Take a quiet moment today to audit one area of your life where an earthly concern has quietly climbed to the top of your priority list. It may be a financial goal, a relationship, a reputation, or even a worry. Ask yourself honestly: is this drawing me closer to God or subtly pulling my gaze downward? You do not have to abandon the concern entirely, but you can deliberately reframe it as something you hold with an open hand, trusting that the One preparing your eternal home is more than capable of managing your temporary one.
