There is a war being waged around you every single day, and you are not the one winning it. Today’s Open Heaven devotional, penned by Pastor E.A. Adeboye, pulls back the curtain on the invisible battles God quietly fights on our behalf, often while we are completely unaware. If you have ever wondered why you are still standing when circumstances should have taken you down, this word is for you. Let it deepen your gratitude and anchor your trust in the Lord who never clocks out.

Memory verse: The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name. – Exodus 15:3 (KJV)
I am always praising God, and there are several reasons I do so and will continue doing so. One of the reasons I always give praise to the Almighty is that He always fights my battles for me. He is the Mighty Man of War, as today’s memory verse tells us.
While I was a lecturer at the University of Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria, I would often return home from the school campus in the afternoons to have lunch and rest for a while before returning for my evening lectures. One particular afternoon, I finished my lunch and lay on the couch in the living room to rest. At that time, I was also the pastor of a parish, and many people would often come and go from my living room. I knew that if anyone saw my eyes closed, they would think I was sleeping and wouldn’t bother me, so I closed my eyes, put my hands together and put them under my head like a pillow. Suddenly, someone came into the room and grabbed my hands with one hand and my legs with the other hand while attempting to kiss me. At first, I thought it was my wife, but I realised that a person who could hold my hands and legs at the same time must be very tall, so it couldn’t be her. I opened my eyes, and the being vanished. Instantly, I felt a cold sensation all over my body. I got up, got into my car, and drove to the campus for my evening lectures. Not long after, I began to vomit and pass stool at the same time. When returned home, I had to crawl out of the car to go to the toilet, and I asked, “Daddy, what is this? I am Your son. Why is this happening to me?” God replied, “Son, I just want you to see a little bit of the battles I am fighting for you.”
Many people think that they are alive because they are wise. However, if God allows them to experience a little bit of the battles He fights for them daily, they will know that they are alive only because of His grace. Beloved, you are alive today, not because you can keep yourself alive, but because God is fighting your battles for you. This is why you must thank Him always. He neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4), and that is why He can fight your battles even when you are asleep.

Prayer Points
- Lord, open my spiritual eyes to perceive even a fraction of the battles You have been winning on my behalf, so that genuine, unshakeable gratitude fills my heart today.
- Father, forgive me for every moment I credited my own wisdom, strength, or strategy for the victories and survivals that were entirely Your doing.
- Mighty Warrior God, stand between me and every unseen adversary assigned against my life, my family, and my calling right now, in Jesus' name.
- Lord, since You neither slumber nor sleep, I surrender the night hours to You completely, guard my rest, my home, and everyone I love through every dark hour.
- Father, fight the battles I can see today: the anxiety, the financial pressure, the relational conflict, and win them according to Your perfect will.
- God of Hosts, let Your angelic army encamp around my life so completely that no weapon fashioned in any realm, seen or unseen, can reach its intended target.
- Lord, cultivate in me a lifestyle of praise that is not dependent on circumstances but rooted in the daily reality that You are actively fighting for me.
- Father, let the testimony of Your protection over my life become a witness that draws others into a deeper trust in You.
Declarations
- I am not alive because of my intelligence or ability, I am alive because the Lord of Hosts is fighting for me, and no force in heaven, earth, or beneath the earth can overrule His protection.
- I declare that the battles I face today are not mine alone; the Mighty Man of War goes before me, beside me, and behind me, and He does not lose.
- I refuse to carry anxiety about unseen threats, because my God is an all-seeing, ever-watchful shield, and He is more than enough for everything arrayed against me.
- Because God never sleeps, I rest in complete peace, my nights are covered, my mornings are secured, and my days are held in the hands of my undefeated Defender.
- I am a covenant child of the living God, and the same power that parted the Red Sea and silenced armies is actively working in my favor right now.
Reflection
Take a quiet moment today and mentally walk through the last year of your life, the close calls, the moments of unexplainable peace in crisis, the doors that stayed shut and perhaps frustrated you but protected you. What you are tracing is not luck; it is the fingerprints of a God who is perpetually at war for your wellbeing. Let that awareness reshape how you begin and end each day: not in fear of what might come, but in confident praise to the One who has already gone ahead.
