Today’s Open Heaven devotional invites us to move beyond simply acknowledging our need for help and to take the courageous step of truly wanting to be free. Pastor Adeboye reminds us that God’s delivering power is always available, but it meets us at the point of genuine willingness. Whether you are wrestling with a stubborn habit, a harmful relationship, or a spiritual heaviness you cannot name, this message is for you. Bible reading: Exodus 21:1-6 (KJV)
Memory verse: See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; – Deuteronomy 30:15 (KJV)
Yesterday, I mentioned that admitting there is a burden and recognising the need for God’s help to remove it is the first step that people who are under the yoke of satan must take to become free from his bondage. Today, I will discuss the next step that such people must take to gain their freedom.
While admitting the need for help is the first step to gaining freedom from satan’s bondage, the second step is to be willing to be helped. In John 5:2-9, Jesus asked a man who had been sick for 38 years, “Do you want to be made whole?” Ordinarily, one would think that there is no need to ask a man who had suffered for so long if he wanted to be made whole. However, Jesus asked him the question because He knew that not everyone wants to be helped; some people love their burdens and do not want to be set free from them. Today’s Bible reading tells us that when slaves love their chains, their owners should pierce their ears and brand them as slaves for life.
No matter how long a slave has been in slavery, the day such a fellow decides that he or she wants to be free marks the beginning of his or her journey to freedom. For example, the day the woman with the issue of blood in Matthew 9:20-22 sought Jesus for her deliverance was the day her bondage of 12 years disappeared. The Almighty God can deliver anyone who is under the devil’s yoke, even a lawful captive (Isaiah 49:24-26); however, he or she must be willing to be delivered.
Beloved, any Christian who is still indulging in the pleasures of sin is under the devil’s bondage and is clearly not willing to be free. Anyone who claims to be a believer but keeps company with people who lure him or her to sin is under satan’s yoke and cannot be free until he or she decides to cut off such relationships. It is not enough for a person to just declare that he or she wants to be free; the person’s actions must show a willingness to be free. Such a person must live a holy life and must be committed to praying, studying the Bible regularly, and fellowshipping with other believers. God will fight for such a person and give him or her total freedom.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today
These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.
Prayer Points
- Lord, soften every hardened place in my heart that has grown comfortable with bondage, and awaken in me a deep hunger for true freedom.
- Father, grant me the courage to be honest before You about every chain I have secretly chosen to keep, and let Your truth dismantle each one.
- Holy Spirit, identify the relationships and habits in my life that are quietly keeping me under the enemy's influence, and give me the strength to walk away from them.
- Lord Jesus, just as You asked the man at the pool a pointed question, speak directly to my heart today and stir up an unquenchable desire to be made whole.
- Father, let my actions align with my declarations, may my daily choices reflect a soul that genuinely wants to live in Your freedom and not just talk about it.
- God, I pray for every believer who has grown weary in the fight for holiness; renew their resolve, remind them of Your faithfulness, and give them fresh victory today.
- Lord, wherever the enemy has claimed a lawful hold over any area of my life, arise as my Redeemer and break every legal ground he stands on, according to Isaiah 49:25.
- Father, make me consistent in prayer, in Your Word, and in fellowship with other believers, so that the environment of my life becomes hostile to every yoke of darkness.
Declarations
- I declare that I am not a slave to sin, the same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in me and empowers me to walk in complete freedom.
- I declare that my actions and my words agree: I choose freedom, I pursue holiness, and I will not return to the chains Christ has already broken off my life.
- I declare that no relationship, habit, or pleasure that dishonors God has a permanent place in my life, I willingly lay every one of them at the feet of Jesus.
- I declare that God is my Deliverer, and because I am willing and obedient, He is actively fighting every battle that stands between me and my total liberation.
- I declare that today marks a turning point, from this moment, I walk as someone who has chosen life and good, and I will not look back.
Reflection
Willingness is not a feeling that descends on us one day, it is a decision we make and then reinforce through the small, daily choices no one else sees. Ask yourself honestly: are there places in your life where you have been praying for freedom while quietly protecting the very thing that keeps you bound? Today, identify one concrete step, ending a conversation, deleting an app, joining a Bible study, that puts action behind your desire to be free, and take it before the day is over.
