Topic: Mighty Works

Devotional: Open Heaven (RCCG)

Date: 2026-07-12

Bible reading: Mark 6:1-6 (KJV)

Memory verse: Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. – Mark 9:23 (KJV)

Jeremiah 32:19 tells us that the Almighty God is mighty in works. God loves doing mighty works. Unfortunately, however, in today’s Bible reading, Jesus could not do mighty works in His hometown because of the people’s unbelief. Unbelief or doubt will hinder a fellow from experiencing God’s mighty works in his or her life. When they are absent, however, the fellow’s life will reflect the mighty works of the Almighty God.

God delights in doing mighty works, and He seeks sons and daughters who will partner with Him to do them. He is on the lookout for men and women who will do greater works than the Lord Jesus Christ did while He was on earth. There is, however, the need to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ if you want to be eligible to do greater works (John 14:12).

Beloved, you don’t need to attend a seminary or attain a particular position to do mighty works; all that is required is your faith. When it was almost time for Jesus to ascend into heaven, He commissioned His disciples to preach the gospel all over the world and told them about the mighty signs that would follow them. He told them that they had the power to cast out devils, speak with new tongues, take up serpents, and lay hands on the sick (Mark 16:15-18). The only thing that qualified them to do all these was for them to believe in Him.

Child of God, God wants to do mighty works through you. He wants to use you as His battle axe to destroy the works of darkness (Jeremiah 51:20), but you must believe in Him for this to happen. It is true that He is sovereign and can do whatever He pleases, but He wants you to have faith in Him so all things can be possible for you (Mark 9:23). Have you allowed unbelief to cheat you out of the mighty works that God wants to do in you and through you? If you have, ask for His mercy today. Fill your heart with His word because hearing God’s word continually will grow your faith. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. You must also flee from anything that will dampen your faith.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8), and the marvellous things He has done for others and through others, He can do for you and through you. Only believe!
Get up and work.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today

These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.

Prayer Points

  • Lord, identify and uproot every seed of unbelief that has quietly taken root in my heart, replacing it with a faith that does not waver even in difficult circumstances.
  • Father, let me never be the reason Your mighty works are hindered in my life, my family, or my community, guard my heart against doubt and skepticism.
  • Holy Spirit, feed my spirit daily with the living Word of God so that my faith grows stronger with every passing season, just as Romans 10:17 promises.
  • Lord Jesus, commission me afresh for greater works, use my hands, my voice, and my steps as instruments through which Your kingdom advances on the earth.
  • Father, wherever the enemy has robbed me of breakthroughs because of past unbelief, restore double and let Your mighty works manifest visibly in those very areas.
  • God, give me boldness to lay hands on the sick, to pray for the impossible, and to stand on Your word even when my circumstances seem to contradict Your promises.
  • Lord, keep me far from every influence, people, habits, environments, that chips away at my confidence in You and in the finished work of Christ.
  • Father, make me a living testimony of Your might so that everyone who encounters my life will see clearly that You are still the same God who does wonders.

Declarations

  • I am a vessel of God's mighty works, and unbelief has no permanent residence in my heart.
  • My faith is growing daily through the Word of God, and I am fully equipped to do greater works in Jesus' name.
  • Every limitation the enemy placed on my life through doubt is broken, I walk in the limitless possibilities that belong to those who believe.
  • I am God's battle axe in this generation, and the works of darkness crumble wherever He sends me.
  • Jesus Christ is the same today as He was in the Gospels, and what He did for others He is doing for me right now.

Reflection

Take a quiet moment today and honestly examine one area of your life where you have been praying without truly expecting an answer. That subtle resignation, ‘maybe it just won’t happen for me’, is where unbelief hides most comfortably. Choose one scripture about God’s power or faithfulness, write it on a card or your phone screen, and meditate on it every time doubt resurfaces this week. Faith is not manufactured by trying harder; it grows by staying close to the Word until what God says begins to feel more real than what you can see.
