Today’s Open Heaven devotional invites us into a rich conversation about what it truly means to walk in covenant with God, and what that faithfulness unlocks over a lifetime. Pastor E.A. Adeboye draws on scripture and the legacy of RCCG’s founding to show that God’s promises are not empty words but living agreements waiting to be activated by obedience. Whether you are just beginning your faith journey or are years deep into following Christ, this message is for anyone who has ever wondered why some believers seem to overflow with God’s blessing. Pull up a chair, open your heart, and let today’s Open Heaven speak directly to your season.
Open Heaven for August 16, 2026
Topic: the Gains of Gods Covenants (1)
Devotional: Open Heaven (RCCG)
Date: 2026-08-16
Bible reading: Deuteronomy 28:1-14 (KJV)
Memory verse: Keep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do. – Deuteronomy 29:9 (KJV)
In Proverbs 31:1-9, one of the things King Lemuel’s mother taught him was that there were certain things that kings should not do. She told him that kings should not give their strength to women, nor should they follow the ways that destroy kings, nor should they drink wine or strong drink. If a fellow does the things that kings shouldn’t do, it is expected that such a person would either never become a king or would be dethroned if he or she is already a king.
To fully enjoy the gains of any covenant with God, you must be ready to fulfil its terms and conditions by surrendering totally to Him and obeying all His instructions. Once you decide to serve God with all your life and do whatever He says, sooner or later, people will come to you and say, “Tell us your secret; how are you flourishing in every area of your life?!”
Many people attribute the remarkable progress of RCCG to my academic background; however, they are unaware that we are reaping the benefits of the founder’s covenant with God. God called the founder of the church, Pa Josiah Akindayomi, a man who never attended school, and told him that if he could meet certain conditions, He would establish a church through him that would spread around the world. God helped Pa Akindayomi, and before his death, he fulfilled all the conditions that God gave him. Today, the RCCG is present in over 195 nations worldwide. The church is where it is today because of God’s covenant with my Father in the Lord.
God cannot be mocked. Anyone who obeys the terms of His covenant will reap its gains. In today’s memory verse, Moses told the Israelites that if they kept God’s commandments, they would prosper in all that they did. Prosperity is a major gain that those who keep God’s covenant will enjoy. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob all enjoyed abundant prosperity as a result of God’s covenant with Abraham. Father Abraham was described as a man who was blessed in all things (Genesis 24:1), Isaac was described as being very great (Genesis 26:13), and Jacob was described as a prosperous man (Genesis 30:43).
Beloved, God has given His children all things to enjoy richly (1 Timothy 6:17). However, you must fulfil the terms and conditions of God’s covenant with His children to truly enjoy prosperity in all areas of your life. May your life reflect the gains of God’s covenant abundantly, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today
These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.
Prayer Points
- Lord, give me a heart that is quick to honour every condition of Your covenant, not out of duty but out of genuine love for You.
- Father, where I have unknowingly walked outside the terms of Your promises, grant me the grace of repentance and restoration today.
- God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, let the generational faithfulness You demonstrated through those patriarchs be a testimony that stirs fresh faith in me.
- Holy Spirit, help me to identify and surrender any habit, attitude, or affection that is quietly disqualifying me from the fullness of Your blessing.
- Lord, raise up in my family a legacy of covenant-keeping so that those who come after me inherit a foundation already soaked in Your faithfulness.
- Father, wherever I am tempted to credit human effort or strategy for breakthroughs that only obedience to You can produce, humble me and redirect the glory to You.
- God, let my life become such a visible display of Your covenant prosperity, in health, relationships, provision, and purpose, that others are drawn to seek You.
- Lord, I pray for every leader and founder whose obedient sacrifice is still bearing fruit today; may their legacy continue to glorify Your name across generations.
Declarations
- I am a covenant child of God, and every promise He has spoken over my life is backed by His unchanging character and faithfulness.
- I choose obedience as a lifestyle; therefore, the prosperity God attaches to covenant-keeping is actively working in every area of my life.
- No generational shortcut or compromise will define my story, I walk in the fullness of what God prepared for those who honour His word.
- My family line is shifting because I am choosing, starting today, to meet God's conditions with a wholehearted and surrendered life.
- I am not merely surviving, I am flourishing, because the God who kept His word to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob keeps His word to me.
Reflection
Take a few quiet minutes today to honestly ask yourself which areas of your life still operate outside of God’s terms, not to condemn yourself, but to locate the gap between the blessing you desire and the surrender God requires. Covenant is not a transaction; it is a relationship built on trust. Choose one specific act of obedience you have been delaying, and commit to taking that step before the day is over. That single step of faithfulness may be the hinge on which an entire season of breakthrough swings open.
