Bible reading: Proverbs 31:1-9 (KJV)
Memory verse: Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. – 1 Corinthians 9:24 (KJV)
The farther you want to go in lite, the more you must invest in yourself. For example, if you are driving a Car with a tank full of petrol from Lagos, which is in South West Nigeria, to somewhere in Northern Nigeria, you will need to refuel your car at some point during the course of your journey. However, if you were only going to Ibadan, which is also a city in the South West of Nigeria, you wouldn’t need to stop on your way to buy more petrol.
Anyone who wants to go far in life must invest resources that include holiness, hard work, knowledge, and good interpersonal skills in his or her life, while avoiding unproductive habits such as binge-watching movies, scrolling aimlessly on social media, wild partying, and the like. Discipline is required to go far in life. I recall when I was a child, my mother would compel me to stay indoors and study while my friends were outdoors playing football. I used to complain a lot about it, but she insisted until it became a part of me. One time, I was at my uncle’s place, where a masquerade show was taking place on the street, and everyone was outside watching the show except me. My uncle came to me and asked why I didn’t go outside to watch the show, and I responded, “The fellow everyone will watch someday does not sit around watching shows.” Many years later, when God had lifted me, he reminded me of that day and said, “Today, the whole world is watching you.”
Beloved, what you invest in yourself is what will determine your height in life. While the other captives in the king of Babylon’s palace were busy dining and feasting on the king’s delicacies, Daniel and his three counterparts focused on consecrating themselves to the Lord (Daniel 1:3-12). I believe that they were not the only Jews in the king’s palace at that time, but they were the only ones who went on to do exploits because they invested the right resources in themselves.
Child of God, if you have big dreams that you want to see come to pass, then you must pay the price to invest in yourself. You must also let go of unnecessary weights, such as laziness and a lack of self-control, as well as impurities like sin, which can hinder you from fulfilling God’s plans for your life. I pray that you will fulfil God’s plans for your life, in Jesus’ name.

Open Heaven Prayer Points for Today
These Open Heaven prayer points for today are original PrayerPrompt content, declarations and a reflection to turn today’s message into prayer.
Prayer Points
- Lord, open my eyes to see the specific areas of my life where You are calling me to invest more deeply, spiritually, mentally, and physically.
- Father, grant me the grace of holy discipline; where my flesh resists growth, let Your Spirit strengthen my resolve to choose what is right over what is easy.
- Heavenly Father, I ask that You root out every unproductive habit that has quietly consumed the hours and energy You entrusted to me.
- Lord Jesus, like Daniel in a culture that pulled toward compromise, anchor me in consecration so that my choices set me apart for divine purpose.
- Father, bless the people in my life who have pushed me toward excellence and growth; let their investment in me bear lasting fruit for Your glory.
- God of wisdom, fill me with knowledge, godly character, and the relational skills I need to steward every assignment You place in my hands.
- Lord, forgive me for the seasons I have traded destiny-building moments for comfort and distraction; renew in me a hunger for what truly matters.
- Father, let the seeds I am planting today, in prayer, in study, in obedience, yield a harvest that glorifies Your name and blesses generations after me.
Declarations
- I am an intentional steward of the time, gifts, and grace God has placed within me, and I choose daily investments that align with His purpose for my life.
- I refuse to let laziness, distraction, or sin define my story; by the power of the Holy Spirit, discipline is becoming a natural rhythm of my life.
- Like Daniel, I am set apart, my consecration to God is the foundation from which every exploit in my life will be launched.
- The dreams God has placed in my heart are not too big; they are simply an invitation to grow into the person He has already called me to be.
- I am running my race with focus and intention, and I will not stop short of the fullness of everything God has ordained for my life.
Reflection
Take a quiet moment today to audit one area of your daily routine, not to condemn yourself, but to ask an honest question: is what I am consistently feeding this area moving me closer to or further from what God has called me to? Identify one small, sustainable habit you can begin or strengthen this week, and one distraction you are willing to lay down. Lasting transformation rarely arrives in a single dramatic moment; more often it is built in the quiet, repeated choices no one else sees.
