Devotional – The Priority That Opens Heaven’s Storehouse
There is something powerful about what you give to God first, before the bills are sorted, before the budget is balanced, before you know how the rest will stretch.
It is not just about the amount. It is about the posture of your heart when everything in you wants to hold on tight, and yet you open your hand toward heaven anyway.
The world teaches scarcity. It whispers that you must secure yourself before you can be generous. It says honor God after you have honored your security.
But Proverbs 3:9-10 flips that entire economy upside down. “Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.”
This is the divine principle of first fruits. God does not ask for leftovers. He invites you to put Him first in the most practical, vulnerable area of your life: your resources.
When you honor God with the first and the best, you are declaring that He is your source, not your job, not your hustle, not your strategy. You are saying with your life, not just your lips, that you trust Him to do what only He can do.
And here is what heaven responds with: abundance. Not because you earned it, but because you honored the One who owns everything.
Today, you stand at that intersection again. Will you honor Him first, or will fear make you wait?
Let this be the day you release what is in your hand so God can release what is in His.
Daily Prayer for May 23

Daily Spiritual Posture
Today, I come before the Lord with open hands and a willing heart, ready to honor Him with the first and best of all He has given me. I position myself as a steward, not an owner, trusting that God’s provision flows to those who put Him first.
Main Scripture
Proverbs 3:9-10 (NLT)
“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce. Then he will fill your barns with grain, and your vats will overflow with good wine.”
Prayer of the Day
Father, I come to You today not out of obligation, but out of reverence and trust. I acknowledge that everything I have has come from Your hand, and I choose to honor You with the first and the best. I release my need to control my resources and I place them under Your lordship. I believe that as I put You first, You will fill my life with abundance that only heaven can provide.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Entering God’s Presence
Lord, I enter Your presence today with thanksgiving, knowing that You are a good Father who withholds no good thing from those who walk uprightly. I quiet my anxious thoughts and I fix my heart on Your faithfulness. I remember every time You have provided, every door You have opened, every need You have met before I even asked. I worship You not for what You give, but for who You are, the God who sees, the God who knows, the God who provides.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Interceding for Others
Father, I lift up every person today who is struggling to trust You with their finances, their career, their future. I pray for those who are gripping tightly out of fear, unable to release what is in their hand because they cannot yet see what is in Yours. I ask that You meet them with a revelation of Your goodness and a fresh grace to obey You even when it does not make sense. I pray for breakthrough over families living paycheck to paycheck, for business owners facing hard decisions, for students and young adults learning to steward well. Let this be a season where many discover the joy of putting You first and watching You respond with overflow.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Personal Petition
Father, I bring my own finances, my own resources, my own plans before You today. You know the pressure I feel, the calculations I have been running in my mind, the worry that whispers I do not have enough to honor You and still make it through. But Your Word in Malachi 3:10 says to test You in this, to bring the whole tithe and see if You will not open the windows of heaven and pour out blessing until there is no room to contain it.
So today, I choose to honor You first. I give You my best, not my leftovers. I release my seed into the soil of faith, trusting that You are the God who multiplies what is surrendered to You. I pray that as I obey, You would fill my barns with plenty, not because I deserve it, but because You delight in blessing those who put You first. Let this act of obedience mark a turning point in my life, where fear gives way to faith and lack gives way to abundance.
I declare that my obedience today positions me for overflow tomorrow. I will not be moved by what I see, but by what You have promised. I thank You in advance for the harvest that is coming.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Wisdom for Deeper Understanding
The principle of first fruits is not about transaction. It is about trust. It is about saying to God, “You are first in my life, not just in my words, but in my wallet.” When you honor God with the best part of everything you produce, you are not trying to manipulate heaven into blessing you. You are positioning yourself in the flow of divine provision that has always been available to those who put Him first.
This is why Proverbs 3:9-10 connects honor with overflow. The barns are filled not because you worked harder, but because you trusted deeper. The vats overflow not because you were smarter, but because you were obedient. God responds to the heart that says, “You are enough, even when what I have does not feel like enough.”
As Charles Spurgeon once said, “God is too good to be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.” When you give God your first and your best, you are trusting His heart over your fear, and that is the posture that unlocks heaven’s storehouse.
Final Encouragement
You have prayed today with intention and faith, and that matters. You have declared that God is first in your life, not just in theory, but in practice. You have released what was in your hand so that heaven can release what is in His. That is not a small thing. That is the kind of obedience that shifts atmospheres and opens barns.
As you close this time of prayer, carry the confidence that God sees your obedience and He will respond. He is not slow. He is not stingy. He is the God who fills barns and overflows vats for those who honor Him first. FAQ
What does it mean to honor God with your first and best?
Honoring God with your first and best means giving to Him before you pay bills, meet other obligations, or secure yourself financially. It's the principle of first fruits—offering what costs you something, not leftovers. When you do this, you declare that God is your true source and that you trust Him more than your own strategy or hustle.
Why does God want the first fruits and not leftovers?
God asks for first fruits because they reveal what you actually trust. Giving leftovers costs you nothing and proves little about your faith. But releasing your best before the bills are paid shows you believe God is your provider, not your job. This posture of surrender opens your heart to receive the abundance God promises in response.
What does Proverbs 3:9-10 promise if I give God my first fruits?
Proverbs 3:9-10 promises that when you honor the Lord with your wealth and best produce, He will fill your barns with grain and your vats will overflow with good wine. This is God's promise of abundance—not earned through your effort, but released through your obedience and trust in putting Him first.
How do I overcome fear when giving my best to God financially?
Overcome financial fear by remembering God's faithfulness in your past—every provision, opened door, and met need. Shift your identity from owner to steward; everything already belongs to God anyway. Then take one step of obedience, releasing what feels unsafe, and watch how God responds with the abundance only He can provide.
