Devotional – When Your Imagination Falls Short
There is a moment that comes to every believer when the gap between what you need and what you can see becomes unbearably wide. You have prayed, you have believed, you have done everything you know to do, yet the mountain remains unmoved and your circumstances whisper louder than your faith.
You find yourself trapped not by lack of faith, but by the limits of your own imagination.
This is precisely where Paul plants his banner in Ephesians 3:20. He writes to a church that knew suffering, persecution, and impossible odds, and he tells them something that defies human logic: God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.
Read that again slowly. Not just what you ask. Not even what you think. But above all of it, exceeding it, multiplying it beyond recognition.
The Greek word for “exceedingly abundantly” is a double compound, a word so emphatic that Paul essentially stacks superlatives on top of each other because human language cannot contain the magnitude of what God can do. It is like trying to measure the ocean with a teaspoon.
You have been asking God for a door. He has a building with your name on it. You have been praying for provision. He is preparing overflow. You have been hoping for healing. He is planning resurrection.
The tragedy is not that we ask too much of God. The tragedy is that we ask too little, think too small, and settle too quickly because we measure His capacity by our experience instead of by His character.
Today, this prayer is not just a request. It is a reset of your spiritual imagination. It is a declaration that your ceiling is not God’s floor, that your limitations are not His, and that the power working in you right now is the same power that raised Christ from the dead.
Let that truth settle in your spirit before you pray another word.
Daily Prayer for May 2

Daily Spiritual Posture
Today, I come before God with open hands and an expanded heart, releasing the limits I have placed on His power. I choose to believe that He is not constrained by my past, my present circumstances, or my ability to imagine solutions. I stand in awe of a God whose ways are higher, whose thoughts are beyond me, and whose power is already at work within me to accomplish what I cannot yet see.
Main Scripture
Ephesians 3:20 (NKJV): “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”
Prayer of the Day
Father, I come to You today acknowledging that my mind cannot fully grasp the extent of Your ability. I confess that I have often measured Your power by my own understanding and limited Your work by the borders of my imagination. Remind me today that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all I can ask or think. Open my eyes to see beyond my circumstances and my heart to believe beyond my experience. Let Your limitless power be made manifest in my life in ways that leave no doubt that You alone are God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Entering God’s Presence
Heavenly Father, I enter Your presence today not with a list of demands, but with a heart of worship. You are the God who spoke galaxies into existence and numbers the hairs on my head. You are the One who parts seas and also hears whispers. I honor You as the God of the impossible, the God who does not operate within human limitations. I thank You that before I even finish praying, You are already working on my behalf in ways I cannot see. I worship You not just for what You can do, but for who You are, the Almighty, the All-Sufficient, the God who is more than enough. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Interceding for Others
Lord, I lift up everyone who has stopped dreaming because disappointment has become their constant companion. I pray for those who have prayed until their words feel empty and their hope feels distant. Remind them today that Your ability is not determined by their ability to believe perfectly, but by Your unchanging nature. Let this word reach the single parent who does not know how the bills will be paid, the couple whose marriage feels beyond repair, the person whose body is fighting a diagnosis that seems final. Speak to them through Your Word and let them know that You specialize in the impossible. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Personal Petition
Father, You see the specific situations in my life that have caused me to shrink my expectations. You know where I have settled for less because I could not see how You could do more. I ask You today to stretch my capacity to receive. Like Abraham, who believed You could give him a son when his body was as good as dead (Romans 4:19-21), let me believe You for the impossible. Where I have asked for crumbs, show me You have prepared a feast. Where I have prayed for survival, show me You have planned abundance.
I declare over my finances, my relationships, my health, my calling, and my future that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all I have dared to ask. Let Your power work in me today, not just around me. Transform my thinking, renew my mind, and let my faith rise to meet Your ability. I refuse to let my past dictate my future or my present limit Your possibilities. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Wisdom for Deeper Understanding
The phrase “according to the power that works in us” is the key that unlocks this entire promise. God’s ability to do the impossible is not theoretical or distant. It is present tense, active, and already at work within every believer through the Holy Spirit. This is the same dunamis power that raised Jesus from the grave, and it lives in you right now. The issue is never God’s capacity. The issue is whether we will align our prayers, our thoughts, and our expectations with the power that is already present.
When we pray according to His Word and in His will, we tap into a power source that has no ceiling, no shortage, and no limits. We are not trying to convince God to act. We are cooperating with what He is already doing. This is why Paul prays that the Ephesians would know the exceeding greatness of His power toward those who believe. It is not a power we earn. It is a power we receive, recognize, and release through faith.
As Charles Spurgeon once said, “God is too good to be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.”
Final Encouragement
You have prayed today with a God who does not know the meaning of the word impossible. He is not pacing heaven trying to figure out how to answer you. He is not limited by your resources, your timing, or your current reality. What He has spoken, He will perform. What He has promised, He will bring to pass. And what He is doing in you right now is far beyond what your eyes can see or your mind can calculate.
I declare that God is doing exceedingly abundantly above all you have asked or imagined, and the evidence of His limitless power will manifest in your life in undeniable ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
