You’re one week into the new year. And already, you’re either moving too fast or falling behind.

Here’s the tension: You want to follow the Holy Spirit, but you keep losing the rhythm. You rush ahead with your own plans, or you freeze in hesitation, unsure of the next move.

Paul addresses this directly: “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” Galatians 5:25 (NIV)

Notice the phrase: “keep in step.” Not “run ahead.” Not “lag behind.” Keep in step.

This is the image of a dance, a march, a synchronized walk. The Holy Spirit sets the pace. You match it.

When you rush ahead, you move in your own strength and miss His leading. When you hesitate too long, you miss the moment He’s already prepared.

Keeping in step means staying sensitive to His prompting—moment by moment, decision by decision, conversation by conversation.
