Devotional – The Work Is Not Finished
There are moments when you look in the mirror and don’t recognize who’s looking back.
The old patterns you thought were gone have resurfaced.
The reactions you swore you’d overcome still control you when pressure hits.
Colossians 3:10 (NIV) brings the answer: “Put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.”
This isn’t about trying harder to be good.
It’s about being renewed daily in the image of Christ.
Not a one-time event.
An ongoing transformation powered by the Spirit.
Think about the disciples watching Jesus transform a man born blind.
They asked, “Who sinned—this man or his parents?” (John 9:2).
They focused on the past.
But Jesus said, “This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.”
He made mud, anointed the man’s eyes, sent him to wash.
The man came back seeing—completely transformed by an encounter with Jesus.
Maybe you lost your temper with your kids again and felt the shame of repeating what you promised you’d never do.
Perhaps you caught yourself in the same gossip, the same jealousy, the same bitterness you’ve been trying to shake for years.
Or maybe it’s subtler—the critical spirit that colors everything, the pride that won’t admit you’re wrong, the fear that paralyzes every decision.
Here’s the revelation: renewal isn’t about fixing your old self.
It’s about putting on a new self that’s being continuously renewed in Christ’s image.
The work of renewal is daily, ongoing, and powered by the Spirit—not by your willpower.
Today is another opportunity to put on the new self—yesterday’s failure doesn’t disqualify you from today’s transformation.
Daily Spiritual Posture
We approach God today with hearts open to renewal.
I acknowledge that transformation is ongoing, not a one-time event.
I surrender to the daily work of being renewed in Christ’s image.

Prayer of the Day
Heavenly Father, renew me daily in the image of Christ.
Let my life reflect His character in every situation.

Entering God’s Presence
Father, I thank You that renewal is available every single day.
I praise You that yesterday’s failures don’t define today’s possibilities.
Forgive me for trying to change in my own strength instead of yielding to Your Spirit.
I surrender to Your daily renewing work in my life.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Interceding for Others
Father, I pray for everyone battling old patterns that won’t break.
Renew those who feel stuck in cycles of defeat and shame.
Strengthen believers worldwide who are cooperating with Your transforming work.
Let Your image be clearly formed in Your people everywhere. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Personal Petition
Heavenly Father, I come before You in the mighty name of Jesus.
I stand on the truth that I am being renewed in Your image. (Colossians 3:10)
I bring my specific situation before You today.
Every old pattern that keeps resurfacing—I surrender it to Your renewing power.
My anger, my fear, my pride, my critical spirit—transform them all.
I refuse to believe that I’m stuck in the old self forever.
Lord, renew my mind so I think like Christ thinks.
Renew my heart so I love like Christ loves.
Renew my responses so I react like Christ reacts.
Do the work in me that I cannot do for myself.
I declare that I am being transformed daily.
Every encounter with Your Word renews me.
Every moment I yield to Your Spirit, Christ’s image becomes clearer in me.
Complete the work You’ve started until I fully reflect Your character.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Wisdom for Deeper Understanding
Colossians 3:10 uses present continuous tense—”being renewed.” This isn’t a past event or a future hope; it’s an ongoing reality. Every day you cooperate with the Spirit, Christ’s image becomes clearer in you.
Renewal requires both God’s power and your cooperation. You can’t transform yourself, but you can position yourself for transformation through surrender, obedience, and daily exposure to God’s Word and presence.
Oswald Chambers wrote: “The characteristic of the saint is not that he is perfect but that he is perfect in his relationships to God.” Renewal isn’t about achieving flawlessness—it’s about staying connected to the One who transforms you.
Final Encouragement
You are not who you used to be. The old self is passing away, and the new self is being formed. Every day you wake up, you have another opportunity to cooperate with the Spirit’s renewing work.
Don’t let yesterday’s failures convince you that change is impossible. The man born blind had been that way his entire life—until he encountered Jesus. One encounter changed everything.
You’re encountering Jesus right now through prayer and His Word. Let Him renew you today. Let Him form His character in you. Trust the process even when progress feels slow.
Say it boldly:
“Father, renew me daily in the image of Christ—let my life reflect His character, in the name of Jesus!”
As you continue through today, return to God in evening prayer and watch for evidence that renewal is happening.
Watch for moments when your response looks more like Jesus than it used to. Watch for thoughts that align with His truth instead of old lies. Watch for character growing where weakness used to live. The renewal is real and ongoing.
