Teenager struggling with depression, anxiety, and isolation

Please pray for my son Ethan. He is 17 years old. He lives in Beijing, China and is attending an international school. In December of 2025 he began to withdrawal. During this time he began to spend a lot of time by himself in his room. He suffers from depression and anxiety. In January he started missing classes due to oversleeping. This became a pattern. He would go to bed at around 3:30 or 4am and would sleep until the afternoon. He doesn’t talk to anyone. He saw a counselor one time but didn’t want to go back to see the counselor. In the Summer we returned home to the States hoping that a change of scenery might help. It did not. He continued to withdraw and spent most of the summer by himself and not talking to anyone. We returned to Beijing in August. He did attend the first day of school and even met with school officials to sign a contract that he would complete his classes and graduate this year. After attending class the first day, he slept in and missed 2 classes on the second day. The third day he woke up at 12:45pm and missed three classes. Please pray for breakthrough. My family has been praying for him for so long. Please pray for the following:

1. Healing for whatever is bothering him. Pray God would free him from anxiety and depression. He used to do well in school. He also played sports and got involved in different things. For whatever reason he has withdrawn from everything. Pray that God would heal his heart, and he would experience restoration.
2. Realization of a problem that he has. He’s always withdrawn and in his room. He thinks he can just avoid everything, and he will be ok. Please pray that he would realize that he needs help and needs other people in his life.
3. Awareness that he is facing something difficult. Awareness that he needs help. Pray for self-awareness that he would understand what’s happening.
4. Pray for a calling of God on his life. I believe God has called him to his Kingdom. Pray for this.
5. Pray for a specific purpose in his life. Pray his mind would be transformed by God’s Holy Spirit. Pray that God would ignite a purpose in his life.
6. Pray God would give him a desire and motivation in his life.
7. Pray that he would have a good relationship with God, his mother, his father and his brother. Pray that he would have a good relationship with a few friends.
8. Pray that God would soften his heart so he would open and surrender.
9. Pray that God would give him a sense of responsibility. Pray he would begin to be responsible for school and for his life.
10. Pray that he would use his gifts, talents and abilities to serve the wider community. That he would see his gifts and talents and find outlets to develop them.
11. Pray for wisdom for me and my wife. Pray God would tell us what steps we should take to get him the help he needs.
